Hi ,

My son will be an year old in May. he has been breastfed all along. Now i feel my milk supply is decreasing & so i want to shift him to cow's milk. i tried to give him formula in between but he refused to take it .. did not even know how to suck frm the bottle :-( .. HOWLED so i gave that up.

At nites since birth he is used to sleeping with booby in his mouth. He wakes up still 2-3 times a nite & REFUSES to sleep unless i feed him. I tried letting him cry for 7-10 days BUT no avail .. we both ended up crying as cried for 30 mts at a stretch & didnt sleep till i fed him, Perhaps i was weak but cldbt see him cry so :-(

Now, HOW do i get him to wean slowly frm me to a bottle/cup? Which will be better? PLEASE share ur experiences/advise me.

Thanks

Nidhi

dear friend, iam a doctor and my sincere advice is that you can continue feeding him till he is two years old. because his brain development willbe v.good if u do so. there is also a saying that mom's milk is good for brain growth and cow's milk is good for body growth. if u think he is disturbing you too much at night, give him a full feed. you can give him cow's milk and reduce the number of times you feed him your milk. instead of using nipple, use sipper. dont give him at night. give it to him in the morning so that he will learn to drink from that. you know those cups with handles on both sidewill be easy for him to hold.it contains a sipper also. at night time, you put him on your shoulders and walk around. keep patting him, till he goes to sleep. but dont stop your milk completely. keep giving him as much as u can.a survey taken by doctors show that babies who r fed mom's milk till 2years perform better in schools, have good immunity, mentally healthy and many more things. so kindly, reconsider your decision.

I know what you mean...sleeping with booby in the mouth!!!ha! ha!ha!...my daughter is 9mnths old now and has the same problem. i am still trying to introduce powder milk. She has no problem having it with biscuits, bananas, bread etc...but when i try to give it without mixing it with anything, she refuses. she eats her dinner at 8 and then sleeps for a while and wakes up again at 11 for a feed.If i dont feed her then she keeps awake till past midnight....hence it gets difficult for my hubby and i to go out for late night parties etc...
anyway, it's been a week now, i have changed my milk brand from lactogen to nan and since then at about 11 i try and give a a lil mikl in a bottle...i refuse to breastfeed her. its been a week and touchwood, she's been drinking a bit...not a substantial amount...still needs to suckle a bit b4 sleeping but it has reduced tthe pressure on me. Try it.change the brand maybe...

RE:Adult breast feeding
I was not breastfeed in my childhood hence the idea of sucking and feeding from a woman's full, engorged breasts has infatuated me. It is a fantasy that drives me wild like nothing else, just the thought of laying my head in a woman's lap while she brings her swollen nipples to my mouth. Ideally, I'd like to finally explore this with the right female. If you are in or near... - Sanjayhyd [View Message]
