Hello Nancy,

Toilet training can be quite draining for parents...

How old is your child?

What I found that worked for me is I purchased a book called \";Once Upon a Potty\";. I live in the U.S., I'm sure, you can find this book just about anywhere though.

Anyway;
I purchased a little potty and a book when my child turned 2. I looked for signs that she was ready to be toilet trained like her keeping her diaper dry sometimes during naps or for an hour or so during the day.

Since your child is verbalizing the understanding of \";potty\"; to some degree, I would just simply put her some cotton panties on and take her to the bathroom every hour or every 45 minutes. She may not sucessfully go at first, but eventually, you will get results; it may take a while.

When she sucessfully uses the toilet, praise her a lot and make a big deal out of; showing a lot of joy.

Children seem to have a more difficult time having a stool in the toilet. It's partially since it doesn't come as easily as when they urinate.

Children potty train at different ages, some well before they are 2, others after 3 years of age.

Just praise your little one and use lots of positive words when she's \";trying\"; by sitting on the toilet.

Take care,
Nina

(Mommy of a 4 year old and a 5 month old; both girls)

thank you nina, my 18 month daughter stays at a nursery while my husband & I are away at work. a month earlier she would say the word & sit on her potty. we would make a big deal of it & make her proud.suddently she stopped & prefers to stand alone & make potty in her nappy, without letting us know. she gets upset if any of us try to pick her up during the time. We're on leave next month so will definately take up full time potty training, with the help of the book you suggest.

Dear Nancy,
I am so happy to be able to share somethings about this subject with you.

Your baby being 20 months old isn't too young to be introduced to toilet training, however, you can just gradually work on potty training, usually, little ones will begin letting you know they are "ready" to start going to the potty. Sometimes, you may notice they have gone an hour or two with a dry diaper or underwear. Sometimes, they will get anxious when they wet or poop, not really knowing how to tell you, but, they are trying to let you know...

that's what my little girl did. I laughed just now thinking about how cute it was to see her all excited about using the potty like a big girl.

:-)

The book, "Once Upon a Potty" is by Alona Frankel. The Publisher is Harper Festival (A Division of HarperCollinsPublishers) --I'm literally quoting from this book; it's in front of me.

The ISBN number is
0-694-01388-9

This is the copy especially for little girls, I also have one for boys although I do not have a baby boy...yet.

What part of India do you reside? I have family and all in Mumbai, Pune, and Gujurat...and probably some other places I'm forgetting. :-)
