Speech:Blowing candles

My daughter, who is exactly 2 years now, is still not talking full fledged like other kids of her same age. Her vocabulary is about 30-35 words, and she tries to talk 2 words sentences, but not very frequently. She understands even complicated sentences. she sings along with any rhymes in its exact tune and fills the words she knows.. like example in twinkle twinkle, she says ' how' , ' what' ,' are' ,' up' ,' in the sky' filling the rest with the exact tune.. all this in baby language ofcourse. i took her to the development assessment recently and though they didn' t find anything worrying, she was lagging behind in speech pretty much. they gave her a few exercises - like blowing the candles from 10-15 cm distance, encouraging playing with toys that stimulates concentration. do you see anything worrying with my daughter? and does blowing the candles help? when the candle is lit, she is bent upon touching the candle flame or the match stick or comes too much near it that i feel if its worth all the risk it takes. pls advise what i shd do - i m longing to see the day my daughter becomes a chatterbox. all the more, i want to know if shez all fine.

There is really nothing to worry about your kid.Kids tend to catch the easy words first and it takes time for them to understand the rather unfamiliar words which are pretty familiar to us.I do not know whether blowing candles would help her speak, but talking to them endlessly, narrating stories, giving simple commands, explaning day-to-day activities in clear and simple language will definitely help her understand and get familiar to basic language.Afterall just blowing candles does not help learn a language.Practice,as is in our case too,is the magic word.

thank you priya. will do.
only thing i am surprised about is, my daugther seems to catch english words faster than our mother tongue tamil. if probably we had started with english in the beginning, she wud now be fluent. anyway let me see.. she has improved a lot now, but not going in that real fast pace.

Don' t worry. Your daughter is perfectly fine. There are a lot of other message posts regarding delayed speech in kids. Since she does say a few words, there is no problem. Just give her time, and keep talking to her. Not just rhymes or cds..... TALK to her.... Slowly and clearly. And don' t make a big deal of it in front of her. All the best.

Speech/language delay - 2.3 yr old boy
Hello Everyone

Our 28 months old boy is not speaking simple 2 or 3 word sentences yet. He speaks a few words such as mama, papa, aunty etc but definitely not more than 10. Also, he doesn't understand slightly longer sentences, even when we speak slowly and enact it such as "we'll go out after we eat". Otherwise, he appears perfectly normal. Shoranur kerala samajam Ayurveda hospital review
Hi All,

My son is less than 4 and has been diagnosed to be on the autism spectrum. He is non-verbal. We are taking him for OT and ABA/speech therapy.

Meanwhile, I read about an Ayurvedic hospital called Kerala Samajam hospital in Shoranur. Has anyone gone there for treatment? Any reviews?

Hints for Nursing
Babies eat and eat and eat. Although nature has done a pretty good job of providing you and your baby with the right equipment, in the beginning it's almost guaranteed to be harder than you expected. From sore nipples to tough latch-ons, nursing can seem overwhelming.
