Hi,

My son is 2 year & 2 month. But he is talking.he understands everything.hardly speaks 2 words.he blabbers a lot in his language.Apart from his speech, he is very hyper kid.If we show him something..the next moment he will repeat that.he watches lot of TV.I stay in US..and everyone in India keeps asking me that why he is not talking.i feel very bad.i talk to him a lot.but he don' t show any interest.Doctor had recommended for speech therapy..but we want to wait for some more time.

And i had one more concern..my son is very stubborn.Whenever we go out he screams a lot..if we dont give him something that he wants..he will scream top of his voice.at home i control him..by yelling at him..trying to scare him.but same i cannot do it outside right !! becoz of that we have stopped goin out.
what shud i do?

Plz reply..thanks in advance.

Yes - i hv put her in a play group for the time being. its only 10 days since she started going. how abt ur kid? i am really desperate to see her talk full fledged like other kids. i am a working person and thats probably the reason why she isn´ t able to do as well as other kids. but i cant help.

Possible watching TV is the concern with him. It may not be too much, but we can avoid TV/CDs for kids who don' t show great interest to speaking. Same case with my daughter who is now exactly 2 years. They say girls speak a lot, but i didn' t find that in my kid. But when she was about 18 months old, I was asked to stop CDs for her. when i did that, i found a phenomenal change in her. Though she is still not 100% improved, i can see that she was lagging behind because of CDs/TV. i am still trying to catch up, but i can see that her activities, concentration, language, physical play everything has improved ever since we did that.

Good that you are talking to him to a lot. do continue doing that. ensure he is trying to look at your face when you talk. kids observe the lips movement and they try to repeat it. Discourage him from pointing to things he wants, and encourage him to say that out, though it could take about 10-20 seconds of asking, and finally you might hv to say the word urself. but keep doing that and he will improve.

And about the tantrums outside the house - thats what kids do. if they behave like adults, why would they be so adorable. just enjoy this phase of his life. Dont stop going out for this reason - maybe he is a little sensitive to crowd. make him get used to crowd and people.

Good luck to you.

TV during meal can be avoided if possible, but its not an issue if its only during that time. But even during that time, keep talking to him abt what is seen on the TV. My daughter used to just keep staring at her rhymes cd most of the time and there was a big problem. As long as that is not the case with you, you are just fine. Boys are slow with speech. but dont give up - keep talking and singing all the time.

Thanks w for ur valuable reply..I will try ur suggestions.

The thing is my son watches TV whenever he has his meal ie bfast, lunch and dinner..that is the time when i put TV.without tv its very difficult to make him eat.and also i hv seen is he is least interested in playing with toys at home.he likes to go out for a walk or to any friends place.at home he feels very bored..which results in crying and frustration for me.
Abt tantrums..just that sometimes its embarrassing for us.if the kids behave like that outside.

Thanks.

Speech/language delay - 2.3 yr old boy
Hello Everyone

Our 28 months old boy is not speaking simple 2 or 3 word sentences yet. He speaks a few words such as mama, papa, aunty etc but definitely not more than 10. Also, he doesn't understand slightly longer sentences, even when we speak slowly and enact it such as "we'll go out after we eat". Otherwise, he appears perfectly normal. Hints for Nursing
Babies eat and eat and eat. Although nature has done a pretty good job of providing you and your baby with the right equipment, in the beginning it's almost guaranteed to be harder than you expected. From sore nipples to tough latch-ons, nursing can seem overwhelming.
