Hi All

What sunscreen lotion do u all use for ur lil ones while going to swimming???
I use Aveeno baby sunscreen normally. Florida temp is like 90s even around 7pm.
Also Trisha's skin turns reddish even if i take her for a min in hot sun.Does anyone exp like this?
So did anyone started swimming class?? When i asked my ped he told only after age 5, only then all her muscles get strengthen meanwhile she can just play in pool water. But i have seen soo many young childerns swimming nicely at the age of 4-5. im very confused.

Pedi asked to wait till 5 because getting infection like fever, cold, and skin infections from community / public pool is very high. Second, chlorine in water does affect babies tender skin a lot. Still it is up to you when you want to send your baby for swimming.
Pleease make sure pool is well sanitized - obviously no problem if you have your own pool in the backyard

When you buy sunscreen please make sure it is at least SPF 45, waterproof, and blocks UVA and also UVB.

I used medicated powder on skin rash and tried to keep her skin cool and dry – because my daughter got rash of lots of sweating.

Enjoy the summer!
Suchie.

hi, when nirja was 7-8months, we had been to florida for vacation, and we were out in hot sun for almost 10hours,,roaming around sightseeing and that time, nirja had those sun burns, even though she was applied panama jack baby sunscreen.
some people adviced us not to use normal baby sunscreen as the intensity of sunrays is not same everywhere,,so in florida, we got that.
so we took her to dr in florida, after she had sun burns...
dr suggested us coppertone water babies spectra 3,sunscreen lotion with 50spf..its waterproof, not sticky, and doesnt stop perspiration, like in other creme,,which means your baby skin can still breathe with this creme :)
nd she was k with it.its safe on cheecks and chin and ears,,i applied it over her forehead too whenever we go to open parks on weekends, here, and she is wearing it almost for 10-12 hours or whole day.after coming back, make sure to give her bath and remove all diet sticked to creme.
texas is hot place, and here to temp are 90,once a while it touches 98,100.and we have uv radiation alert here as well...
as of now nirja has not faced prob with this creme..
try that, c if it works for trisha. since all babies react to cremes differntly, and not all cremes suits all the babies,,try on a little skin area near elbow or knees, and c if she is ok with that and that she is not feeling uncomfortable or getting ne rashes or so,,then onlyy continue.

before going out in sun, wipe your baby from head to toe, with wash cloth dipped in cold tap water or water mixed with couple icecubes..like we know warm steam opens the pores of the skin allowing it maximum absorption, cold pack closes the pores, allowing the least absoprtion of nething that comes in contact with skin !this results in less absorption of sunrays by the skin and also less absorption of any creme applied on skin, thus watever you apply is goin to acts as a layer to the skin then penetrating in the skin !!! thus protecting it. i do that for nirja, at every trip outside home.
and then pat dry nicely,,and apply sunscreen.this is all 30min prior to going out.you can try that on your skin too,its very effective ! and after going out, you will not feel the heat of sun on your skin for hours together.for adults, wipe with cloth rolled in icecubes.

about swimming,my dh takes nirja to jacuzi with his friends(he wass very much under influence of his italian friends here,,they all have babies from 6months to 3 years, and they all have father get together every weekends with their babiees & kids),and sometimes to shallow pool(thats for kids, and is not very deep, when we enter the pool, the water is upto our waist line only and in some places it was until our chest).
just make sure not to leave baby alone near pool. make her wear those swimming jackets(fits all sizes, from infant to upto 4years,mostly available in walmart or any baby store) and let her njoy ride on dads back, wearing them, or put her to those pool toys that floats and you stay next to them, holding your baby to make sure that her head doesnt touch water and his ears, nose doesnt get water splashes or she doesnt tumble on her tummy in water.....i have been just once, and then i got pregnant and i was not sure whether i will be able to hold her nicely in water.

when out of water, clean her ears with baby ear buds and make sure all water is soaked.also with suction pump, clean her nose..
i recently got 2-3 types of ear wraps/ear covers from the couple sports mall but nirja doesnt like wearing them..she throws all of them off... they fit ears exactly and has plastic cover, fitting the ears with elastic..elastic can be made loose by pulling it a bit...they too are for all sizes.also, i got her swimming glasses, she throws them off too..

what your dr said is true, but is with respect to actual learning of swimming or introducing your baby to teach standing in water or balancing in water--all part of learning swimming with less guidance in shallow pool..

hope this was helpful !

its not always that sun rays burn the skin. your baby skin is sensitive enough to take burns from hot wind or heat that is emitted from sunrays.
when you are moving him from car to mall or from parking area to malls..
that couple mins are enough to get him burns.

apply sunscreen lotion, try that cold water wipe, its worth it.your baby intensity of burns will reduce !

about playing in water, fill your bath tub or get those little tubs that you can fill air and put newhere,i got one in my patio, and make him wear swim jacket,,throw in some balls or toys there to let him play there ! dont leave him alone and if you want, join him in the tub,,njoy playing with him,,and when you think you are comfortable holding/handling him in tub/water, give it a try in jaccuzi or spa,,take him with you.. babies love the bubbles in there.nirja tries to catch it :)) and then slwly to pool...
introduce him to new things, he will learn alot from it.
the reason why i am telling you is babies should be exposed to more and more activities as they grow up.and this is right time, before they get in all their studies and imp part of their lives. that will all start soon by next 2 years..
if you will keep that mind set that "what if"..then there are too many what ifsss coming on your way. i know being mother its hard to give it a try when you arent sure about handling things, but its worth a try ! as far as u are being careful about the minimal basic preventive steps, thats all you need.
sorry for giving you lecture about this, but as far as i know you, from all talks we shared, i have seen you are not letting your baby free because of your fears...please dont do that. your son is bright boy,,let him cruise, learn and go away a while from you and explore things.you got a wonderful dh to tell you that whether he can take him out for rides...allow him.
i dont mean to offend you by any means, but thought of telling you just what i was told by my dad when i was afraid for nirja about certain things and when his dad started taking him out to pools and muddy playgrounds with his friends and told me that weekends she will be with me :) believe me i was scared.
just passin on words to you from elders :)

hope i didnt hurt you ne means...
i had my exams in morning 830,,were ok,,chal then take care, bye,,m off home.

hetal, i dont expose my baby much out in sun. we are mostly in malls on weekends or in covered places. its 86 at my place.still he got sun burns. why is that. this has happened twice.
i didnt apply any lotion, as we are not much out in sun.could that be the reason.
now i am afraid to take him out of my house.
also in the pool i am not comfortable holding him in water. what if he slips.i am afraid.i dont want to take any chances. any other way i can let him enjoy water. he loves to play in water.
just rem you had exams today, how were they.
good luck for your papers.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
