Kids & Food:Eating by himself

Hi everybody!
I have a 3-year old son and the problem I am facing is getting him to eat on his own. Its very recently that he has started drinking milk on his own. But with solids, he still expects to be fed, and though occasionally he eats rotis or dosa (broken into pieces) and of course Maggi noodles, on his own, he doesnt eat rice on his own.
Any suggestions on how to make him eat by himself?

Hello

I am a mother of 31/2 year old boy. I can understand what you mean. Why dont you get him to eat chappatis on his own and then make him eat rice when you count upto say 50. Also you could bring the dish which has sections for vegetable, salad and rice and make him eat from it. maybe it could work. give it a try. bye

Let me say I understand what you face - I am father of a 3 year old girl who gives me similar tensions.
See, one of my friends told me - Before you think your child has a problem, envisage whether it is going to be a problem when he is 10 or 15 also. If it is no, then don't interfere and let the child develop it on its own.
So that means things like bottle feeding, potty habits, clothes, self eating, etc. need not be worried about. And I can vouch from my experience (includes my niece) that it is true.
That leaves things we really need to be worried about - aggressive behaviour, shy child, learning problems, etc. i.e. which will still be there when he is 10 or 15 years old; if not taken care of.
We follow this and we are able to judge whether we need to interfere or let child learn on her own and take her sweet time.
Hope this puts things in perspective.

RE:The Parents Guide to Healthy Snacking
So my sister’s child is a very fussy eater. She generally makes veggie cheese rolls or sandwiches to get her to eat her vegetables. She tries to use colourful and pretty veggies to get her to eat. Giving smoothies, fruit salads and milkshakes is another appetizing and attractive method. In fact she even decided to supplement her diet with Immuno Boosters and Brain B... - say [View Message]
