Kids & Food:proper timings for food and snacks

Name: wafia

My daughter is 18 months now, she eats any one meal properly i.e. half a chappati and dal in a day. Sometimes she eats only upma or noodles at 7.00pm i.e. 1 spoon upma or one fourth part the noodles avail in the normal noodles packet. I wanted to know how much is the normal appetite at this age and after how many hours to feed the child earlier I used to feed her every two hours then after she became a year old i started feeding her after 3 hrs and now after 4 hours then also my child is responding very poorly. And also when to give her milk she has only half the milk from a very small cup.
The answer to this query will be highly appreciable.
Thankyou
Wafia

No worries Wafia, as rightly pointed out by Shali you need to check height and weight and if it is within the standard growth its perfectly fine.

Some options that kids like:-
1) Toast with butter and jam
2)Cheese slices
3)Pulav, Rice with mixed vegetables , serve with curds.
4)Flavoured Yoghurts
5)Instead of plain milk try flavoured milk
6)Boiled eggs with butter, or half fry
7)Macroni with cheese
9) Sometimes kids love only to eat vegetables or chicken pieces out of our usual curries.
10)Noodles with vegs
11) Rice pudding(Rice boiled in milk with sugar)

Kids enjoy and eat better if whole family sits together to eat.

Break up lunch and dinner into 2 parts
i.e main course and desserts.

Try taking her to mother toddler groups once or twice a week and children tend to learn better in company.

Hope that helps...

Dear Wafia,
The first thing for you to do is take your child to her pediatrecian and check her height and weight,if it is w ithin the normal growth chart for children of her age there is not much to worry about. Just in case her height and weight is lagging below the normal growth chart , the first step for you is to improve her diet. Children grow on the food they eat...it is like fuel for their body. If she doesn't like milk give alternate forms of milk products like cheese and paneer. Some kids don't like rotis...try soft rice with dal. The only thing I can say is that it is in your hands to find out what your child likes the most...best of luck!! Feel free to contact me anytime.

RE:The Parents Guide to Healthy Snacking
So my sister’s child is a very fussy eater. She generally makes veggie cheese rolls or sandwiches to get her to eat her vegetables. She tries to use colourful and pretty veggies to get her to eat. Giving smoothies, fruit salads and milkshakes is another appetizing and attractive method. In fact she even decided to supplement her diet with Immuno Boosters and Brain Booste... - say [View Message]
