Not sure if this query belongs in the this forum but I'll ask anyway

We feed my 6 month old son home cooked food - dal,rice, veggies and Ragi Kanji besides milk. I want to get him accustomed to ready cereal like cerelac so that when we go out or travel, we don't have to worry about food getting spoilt and milk getting contaminated etc.

My MIL who looks after my son while I am at work doesn't seem to like the idea of feeding him cerelac. I need to convince her that it's not harmful to take it once in a while.

Any suggestions ? I mean , did any of you have any doubt cereals and what did your doc say ? Archana replied. hi...

even I have started giving my son solid he has just turned 5 months this 28th..I am thinking of starting cerelac rice..till now we were giving hi rice and moong dal kanji..not sure why doctors dont prefer giveing cerelac to the baby! mom replied. Hi Minka,
Cerelac is of course a healthy food.And is quite tasty and helps kids to gain weight.however , docs dont recommend cerelac after the kid is 1 yr.but till a yr u cann of course give them.just get a box of cerelac and show ur mom in law the ingredients table and quamntity of vitamins, minerals etc in cerelac.(this is printed in every cerelac box).

i've a daughter who is 16 months old.when she was abt 6-7 months i was giving her only the home made food till some of my friends advised me. the reasons which they gave me were 1) the child shd get used to all kinds of food/taste. 2)can save a lot of time.frm then on i started buying the jars and cereal pkts.i consulted the paediatrician also.the cereals which we buy frm shops r no less in quality than the home made ones.especially nestle products r quite reliable!! maybe next time when u go to ur child's paediatrician u can take ur mil along and get her clarified.

i have a one and half yr old son whom i have been giving cerelac since the age of 6 mths and trust me it is good and is not harmful in anyway. every morning i give him cerelaac as breakfast and he loves it and touch wood he is a healthy baby...
so go ahead and tell your mil not to worry and it is not bad,,,,,,
