my baby is 13 days old. initially i had flat nipples and hence my baby had severe latch on problems. i was asked to use the nipple shield and now i have slowly weaned him off the same as my nipples have started to protrude. i have a question.. every time he latches on i can see that the whole breast is inside his mouth and also the lower lip positioning is right. but i do feel mild pain similar to the one when u use the breast pump you experience a pull pain. is this normal? is my baby sucking too hard? or is it improper latch on? pls help. jess replied. you are a very good mother, most moms would have given up! Are you having any bleeding,or scabs?some scabbing is normal in the 1st few weeks,until you toughen up,but there should be no bleeding..Also does the pain last for the first minute or so? that's also normal in the begining,i learned the hard way with my 1st,i had succes with my 2,3&4th babies.Something to remember is air ..give your nipples lots of fresh air if the baby is not nursing let them breathe! lanolin is also a life saver! use all day slather it on your nipples it's o.k. for baby too,good luck!
