We had same problem with my daughter. She used to drink milk only when sleeping. She would not take milk in bottle when awake and would be hungry for several hours. We always had to wait for her to sleep so she could drink something.

The reason my daughter was drinking only when sleeping - because of her silent reflux problem. Silent relfux does not involve projectile vomiting. She had to go thru several test and we were giving her quite bit of medicines. Medicines helped little bit.

When our daughter was around 9 months we started to give her milk with spoon. While feeding her with spoon we used to entertain her with toys, remote, cell phone etc. to divert her attention. That helped us alot since we did not had to wait for her to sleep and also we were able to feed her at regular hours in lesser amount of time. Give her milk while sleeping used to take around an hour.

Also we made sure she is eating solids three times a day.
Breakfast - cereal with banana
Lunch - chicken jar and vegetable jar
Dinner - some vegetable jar, khicri, kheer etc.

Now she is 15 months and she longer drinks when asleep. She is also not taking any medication for reflux since she has out grown that.

Its ok to feed you daughter when sleeping but the problem associated with that is kids associate feeding with sleeping. Your daughter needs to learn that we eat when we are awake and feeding time is a pleasurable time and she should not be hating that.

Try making khicari, dal chawal, kheer for your daughter. Add ghee to it to increase the calories. If you are in US, u could give her pediasure after she is one year old. You could Avacado fruit, it has lots of calories.
Also talk to your pediatrician about this

Let me know if you have more questions.
