My daughter who is nearing three years just refuses to go to her playschool. She is so scared of it that even if we mention the word school she starts crying. Also when she is made to dress to go for a walk the first thing she says is she does not want to go to school. Will I need to take help from a child psychologist.

Hi Sindu, try to send her to your neighbours house to play with kids or let her go down for sometime so that she starts mingling with people around. With time she will be fine do not worry.

Before the child psychologist it would be better if you talk to her about everything. As she is close to you she will be comfortable telling you everything and she will listen to you more than the doctor so give it a try.

You should talk to her and ask her what is soo scared of in school? Why is she is reluctant in attending school and has anything happened or has anyone said her something there? After that make her understand and help her overcome her fear.

Hi Sindhu,
Your kid was tensed about the school she got feared about that so that is the reason she is crying when ever she heard the word school. It would be better you give her some support and let her go to the school.

Hello Sindhu Namath,
I think your kid must be scared by some thing, you just find out what the problem is and solve it. And then your problem will get solved and your kid will go to play school and she will be happy also.

Hello Niranjh and Lekha,
Thanks for your response and your suggestions. I have tried to do some like giving her the things she likes for eg. chocolates but she refuses taking them for this deal.Infact she has fell ill thrice after she joined her playschool coz many a times she keeps crying on and off this is what the teacher said.I guess as you all said she is not happy there becoz something is wrong. I had accompanied her to playschool for a week till then everything was fine but when I started leaving her at the gate then the problems started.Once I have even overheard the teacher scolding children when they cried for their mother. So presently I am not sending her to playschool may be after sometime I will enroll her in a different school.Children require a lot of care and nurturing in these ages and I personally feel most playschools are not equipped for this.

Hi Sindhu,

This is strange...you might want to conduct a surprise check on the school...there could be something / some unpleasant experience in the school that is prompting your daughter to dislike the experience....Maybe a teacher who scolds, maybe too many kids and hence, her not receiving individual attention. Think you should get to the root cause of the problem and resolve it...and put her in a ' good' playschool.

Toddlers are at a crucial stage of learning, where foundational skills for life are being developed. At Skillmatics, we believe toddlers should be learning cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory building, and recognition of shapes, colors, and patterns.
