Dear Archie
I had done IVF cycle this month, my ovum pickup was carried out on 4th july and embryo was transfered on 6th july 1700 hrs. I was asked to carry out blood test on 21st july (after 14 days on ET).
Out of curiosity I had carried out HPT today, i.e 20th july. It showed a negative result. I had done it in afternoon (on 14th day after ET).
Please advise weather this test is conclusive and does it mean that I am not pregnant, or was it too early to carry on HPT.

I hurried with HPT because today morning, while applying PROGETRON GEL, I had noticed two or three spec of blood on the mouth of the tube, which I had inserted vaginally, also for last couple of days I am experencing discomfort and cramps, as if periods are around the corner.

you know better than anybody that how expensive IVF is. The key of success in general for any ttc couple is keeping calm and relaxed, avoiding anxiety and stress. The IVF demands more of these traits mainly because the treatment is done to alleviate troubles noticed in natural conceiving process and that it's horrendously expensive deal to hit success.

having said that, I can say you should not be in any haste for taking hpt. After ET you are supposed to experience implantation in about 3 days as less as few hours, each one vary on this part and also expertise while ET is made. The progesterone and hCG will start shooting up only after implantation is successful.
Facing discomfort and experiencing menstrual cramp is one of the many pregnancy symptoms but not assuratity of success.

One mistake you have done while taking hpt is on it's timing. It was not only sort of early to do hpt but also you carried test in the afternoon and that's pretty expected to get negative results in early stages of pregnancy. When during day time after urination and fluid intake ones hCG amounts in urine have diluted and results in weak to negative results. Therefore I have always been persistant recommending taking hpt with first morning urine, where in I believe candidate is not drinking fluids while a sleep and hence concentrated urine with hCG and also not gone to urinate frequency helps boosting chance of reading real results.

If you want to then repeat test tomorrow morning but I won't recommend as your Dr. will do that in his/her clinic. May be they will do some blood analysis and that's more precise than anything.

Relax and take proper bed rest. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Take care and keep me updated tomorrow as you return from clinic or hpt in morning. Negative hpt should not upsate you, wait for anothet 48 hours and repeat the test.
