I totally disagree with the first reply in this post. Trying to maintain a schedule with a very young baby is, in my opinion, unfair. I believe the child should be fed on demand and if that means twenty minutes after the first feed so be it. I had a hard time with the feeds for the first few weeks but over time the child's stomach and digestive system will develop and be able to hold more milk. Some babies will always eat after an hour or two and to force them to extend this time to three hours is very unfair. The more active your child, the more he/she will eat. I do not think it's right to force the child to wait. Just because s/he won't cry, doesn't mean that s/he isn't hungry. My child is three months and is VERY active, he will eat every two hours (or less) - he is gaining weight and is happy. Please don't make your child suffer because you are inconvenienced.

If the problem is that your child falls asleep, take off his socks or all his clothes to keep him awake. In a few weeks, he will stay awake and eat on his own.

My son is now 4 months old. Even he used to behave in such manner but then I was very strict & used to nurse him for about 30-45 mins at a stretch. I always used to give a minimum of 2.5-3 hrs gap between his feed. It took about a month & a half for him to adjust but then he adjusted. It helps because the kid doesnt have digestion problem & gradually realises that feed time is special. If he sleeps, try to play with his hair & hands so that he wakes up & finishes his feed. As he`ll grow up, feed time will gradually decrease
