It is very difficult to deal with over-pampering grandparents. I have made it clear to my parents and my in-laws that there should be a balance.I do not want them to spoil my kids with junk or too much goodies. I have seen grandparents spoiling the children and later they are into bad habits and without any discipline. They throw a tantrum when their requirements are not meant. they seem to know how to ask for things from grandparents.I think the time spent with them is more important than material things. Rules should be laid down so that both the kids and grandparents know what to expect. Thank God in my home, the grandparents listen to me and do not overindulge the kids. Pratima Sheikh replied. My in-laws and my mom used to spoil my kids but after voicing my concerns, they realized their mistake and backed off. Now they do not necessarily pamper the kids. they do not buy unnecessary toys or clothes and they know that too much junk will cause harm. It really pains to see me when kids ask me for something and if i do not give them, they go to grandparents. If they get it for them then this sets a bad example. every once in a while gift is fine, but not all the time. I am very thankful that my in-laws and parents have understood this and finally they realized that they are spoiling the kids and not helping them.
