It like \";natural\"; vs \";arificial\";. Ragi is rich in iron and its husk makes bowel movements easy. But it depends on whether you could prepare it. My daughter is nine months old and I give her ragi once or twice a day since 4th month. If you are not in a position to prepare it, you could go for commercially available stuff like Cerelac.

1)Soak ragi for 8-12 hrs and grind it. Filter and remove the husk part. The creamy sediment needs to be used. Add little milk (optional) and suger. Cook it till it becomes moderately thick.
2)My Mom dries the sediment part in sun and makes a powder out of it..

I occassinally give her Cerelac while travelling but she developes gas.

Best Wishes
Raji

Hi,
I started my daughter on cerelac stage one when she was 4 months old. There were no side effects which I faced.

Cerelac is also comfortable while travelling since you can just carry water and cerelac along with you without worrying about kid's meal skipping etc.

Secondly as we do the same way kids also get tired of the similar kind of food and they need variety after a while which you will not be able to give in ragi but in cerelac it is possible.
The only drawback in the cerelac is that parents sometimes find it costly but if you can afford it then why not ....

My daughter is 11 months old and she loves cerelac. I keep on changing her cerelac flavour therefore she also gets variety.

All the best
