There are so many home remedies for treating diarrhea in infants which one is right for my baby? I am very confused. Which home remedy is completely safe for the baby? Which is the best remedy for diarrhea? Can anyone please help?

Treating diarrhea with home remedies is completely safe for the baby if diarrhea is not severe. For infants, home remedies should be gradually started. It is always better to start with small amounts. Going with your instincts before starting with a remedy is a best bet. In case of severe diarrhea or if diarrhea persists, pediatrician should be immediately consulted.

I have heard that small bananas are good for treating diarrhoea. Is it good to give bananas to infants suffering for diarrhoae? Are bananas safe for infants suffering from diarrhoea? I hope that giving banana will not harm my baby. I am concerned about it so please reply.

Hi Kusum, giving bananas to infant depends on his or her age. If your infant is 6 months old or more, you can give a little amount of mashed banana to your child. But be careful as banana can also cause cold in your child. However, if you are concerned you can consult your doctor about it.

Is gripe water good for treating diarrhoea in infants? If yes can anybody tell me a good gripe water brand which is safe for my baby? I am a little bit confused. Is gripe water given to babies when they are teething or it is given to the babies when they have diarrhoea.

Hi Sufal,
I do not think gripe water is good for treating diarrhea. It is given to babies when they have trouble with trapped wind. Sometimes gripe water can also cause diarrhea. Gripe water is best used when teething as it is known to provide some relief. For treating diarrhea related to teething, home remedies or ORS can be started
