How do I start potty trainning my 2 year old son?As he is used to diapers all the time he cannot tell out his needs. But my elder kid who was not used to diapers 24 hours a day as we were in India thenwas able to tell me of his needs to go to toilet since he was only a year old.So I am worried about my younger one.Any comments

Well, the only way to go about this problem is to inculcate the habit of going to the toilet. The child has to be trained and retrained and reretrained about the fact of going to the toilet. And remove the diapers as soon as possible.

If your older child has been potty trained by you and at a younger age then why not the younger? India or anywhere else in the world should not matter! I wondered at one point too how to start potty training my kid and I would have her put on the potty as soon as she got up from her sleep and she somehow learnt to associate the two. She was all of 9 months old then. I knowit sounds easier said than done but you are going to have to keep at it till you succeed. Another way is also keep asking the baby....Baba where will you do susu/potty! How will you tell momma you want to do susu/potty...etc. When your baby does susu/ potty in the potty after telling you about it. Praise the lil toddler to the high heavens and tell him/her what a smart thing he/she has done and that will defintely have its results.

To tell you very frankly you might face rebellion too as the baby will find this new way irritating or not so good but all you can do is keep at it. All the best!

Dear sukanya,

potty training to younger children is not so difficult as you think, I do agree with you since you are in a country where you always have to use diapers, still why dont you try this way, as soon as you give your daughter early morning milk remove her diaper and make her sit in a potty cum chair tell your kid it is just another piece of furniture for her to play with, gradually she will stop fear of siting in it and learn to go for potty. Also make sure you remove your kids diaper now and then and let the kid have some fresh air! You may make her sit for potty after each feeding. Also you can ask the elder child to help you in fact my little son does a lot of help to me he can even tell me whether my little one wants to potty by looking at her facial expressions!! Good luck and be cheerful.
