Name: Concerned

My son is 9.5 months old. I have a concern. My sil also has a baby who is 2 months younger then my son. They are always comparing the 2 babies. The give their son dal and rice pureed and when they see me give my baby baby food they compare saying i should do this way and that way like they are doing it right all the time. I ignore them but it does get to me as my sil has a mil at home and i have no help. I am a working mother do not trust my baby sitter to make food for the baby as he is still choking at times and i am scared that she will not know what to doif that happens so i leave baby food with her also i give him baby food after i come from work some time daal water etc etc. aT W/E I GIVE HIM DAAL RICE WHAT SWEETY SUGGESTED . aM I DOING THINGS RIGHT???

As ur son is 9.5 months old u need to start gving some homemade indian foods. yes, jar foods are soo convenient to offer. but my suggestion is try to introduce some new salty taste much. coz i know there are some babies who still eat mashed foods even they are 18 months old.

u can pressure cook dal+ rice, then add lil salt and grind it to smooth paste( like jar food consistency). u need to use mixie to get smooth paste. if u dont have our indian mixie, there are some blenders with small jars too avail in walmart. so that ur babysitter can heat it and ask her to add lil ghee and serve him.

i would say try to reduce jar foods, as our babies are grown out from that stage. try to give fresh furits. u can give mashed banana everyday.

Try giving cheese, yogurts, puffs, biscuits, bread, chapati, idly, dosa etc. If u afriad of choking then its difficult for them to learn chunckier foods. let me them try and play with chunckier foods. it will take some time though.

Hi,

its very frustrating when the babies are compared, esp when the mil does it and you can't say anything. Anyways, I think giving baby food during the day when the baby is with the babysitter is fine, coz you are scared abt choking. But I think you can start to give the baby our normal food, homemade food when you come home just so that the baby gets accustomed to our spice levels and foods. Babies are known to do hazaar nakhras with new foods; so its best to introduce our homemade food as soon as you think its right. It will save on the cost of baby food also, and will also save you the effort of cooking any special thing for him. I give my little one normal daal-rice. You could mash the rice a bit with the spoon. I give some roti too, soaked in daal or cheese. Just try watever is convenient.

Regards,
Sheetal

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
