Problems in School:need advice soon

Hi, mine is a real major problem. Please, advice me. I feel I have failed in life. Please take time and give your opinion and your suggestions.
My son who is 8yrs old is a very tough guy. Off late, he is not studying at all. He is not completing his notes in school, while all other children in his class are writing. Teachers have told him enough times, but he is just not bothered. He doesn't mind taking punishments, but does not want to write. At home, he is not studying. He keeps whiling time away by seeing here and there or by playing all the time. He doesn't have the urge to do things fast. He is very slow in writing. He struggles to join words and read. I mean, he is not able to read any thing aloud like other children. He is not interested in anything. Be it play, studies, drawing, singing, music, games etc., He only wants to while away time without doing anything. Ha yes, he loves watching TV that too only cartoons. He doesn't even know to play with other kids. He keeps laughing for no reason while other children play properly. What is the problem with him? These problems are from his childhood, not now. Off late he just hates to write. Please tell me some alternatives. I am worried for my son's attitude.

Hi there,

Even my son has the same problem. Infact reading your problem seemed like my problem. I have already taken him to a child therapist. He has suggested that there is nothing wrong in the child. He will get better with time. By the way, I have removed the cable TV from my house and that has solved the problem of cartoons to a large extent. However the buzz word is patience and encouragement to the child.

i sincerely think u should go to a child psychiatrist and find out what his problems. simply forcing him to do does no good for him. you should have done this earlier. but its never too late. remember one thing its not shameful to go to a child psychiatrist. its for his future. i have a child who is a preterm and born with 800gms. he is now 2years old and i tke him to a child psychiatrist to make sure that his mental development is normal and if there is something wrong to correct it.

I think even i have faced this problem as a child. The teaching method in india does not suit all types of learning. You can surf the net and try to find out interesting ways for your child to learn the subjects. He may have some thing called dyslexia which will make him slow in reading. Pls talk to a reputed child therapist. he/she will help you with this problem. You feeling like this will only let your son's self-confidence down. Good luck
