Problems in School:All work and no play.

My son aged 6 studies in one of the best schools in New Delhi. Besides very long school hours on weekdays, he attends piano and art classes on weekends. All this leaves him no time for any kind of sports activity. My husband and I are very active in sports and it pains me to see my young son perpetually tired. The piano and art classes were recommended by the school and many classmates of my son attend these. Please let me know if pressurising such young children is right and if any of you have been in my shoes. Also I find children as young as 5 and 6 developing an 'attitude' and behaving very arrogantly with classmates and adults and my son who is a normal child and coming from a family where manners are the norm gets disturbed by these 'attitude' kids and their bad behavior. Should my child also be encouraged develop the so called 'attitude' or is he fine the way he is.

I think you are being too self-righteous. There is no such thing as normal when it comes to children. This so called \";attitude\"; from children such as 5 and 6 are very normal where I come from. In their defense, they are only 5 and 6. Yes, they should be taught good manners but they are in the learning process so just give them a break. In this day and age we cannot expect a child to respond like a toy responds to its remote control. we have to consistently tell them right from wrong and can only hope that they will follow what we have said. yes, you are over working your child. If you force him too much he will develop aversion towards these activities. If you teach him to be self-righteous he will not be able to fit in any group of friends as friends as people always have some flaws. you should also teach him to accept people with their flaws.
