Hi Friends,

Wots a good diet to give to a 2.5yr child when he has cough & cold & isnt really interested in eating??
Pls give some ideas that u may hv tried with ur kids ..

i have saved and printed her replies and links for my ref.i have followed it and this season my kids are not having any cold or cough-touch wood. i think you should read it.

don't worry. i used to give my 28month old vit c diet. it helped.

1. khichdi with 7 daals ... healthy and good to eat. i saw this recipe on khana khajana, so i think u can find it on sanjeev kapoors site. Please replace/remove heavy daals to give kid a light food at this time.

2. i prepare a healthy, clear soup for kid. In a cooker, add
peas, gajar, spinach, beans, corn, babycorn, mushroom, paneer/tofu, nutrinegets, tomatoes and lots of water. Add many Big Ginger pieces (so that u can remove them later, kids dont like it).
Add oregano or pepper, salt, and some cheese as u wd prefer (greasy things not recommended for cough, some ppl give cheese in cold, some dont mind giving little in cough .. so ur choice).

2-3 whistels and u hv a healthy soup ready. Pick what ur kids like, may be baby corn, paneer and give only that in soup.

3. Mix honey and ginger juice, maintain ratio so that ginger juice is not too much. Ask kid to lick it on n off as he plays/watches tv or reads books.

Hi Nidhi,
I know how worried it is for any mom because kid is refusing all food, because of cold/cough etc. I have to go thr' this some times as my kid goes to daycare, And when she is infected with either of these.
What I have tried is following
1. Moongdal-rice khichdi, cook with plenty of water, add haldi, namak and lill ghee. Blend it with hand blender (wooden one) not with electric. and serve hot. Make it lill liquid consistency which kid can gulp if not interested in chewing anything.

2. My kid also takes roti mashed with milk and sugar. just lukewarm the milk. Mash the roti with hands or mixi and then add milk. You can even replace milk with Dal (liquid consistency)

Another suggestion is try dry fruits, bisucuits. My daughter mostly shows no interest in veggie/fruit in these days.

I always offer with spoon so that it's easy for her to have than chew because in cough/cold they tend to eat less because of even breathing and everything becomes different.
