Hi everyone,
Hope all counting weeks/days for delivery.
Manvi's message reminded me of the check we are adviced to do after the 36th week a tip given by my lactation consultant (in class)
After the 36th week, do this check
Check your nipples by gently squeezing the areola (not nipples the area around )about one inch behind the nipple with your thumb and index finger. They should be protuding.
If the nipple pulls inward, it's inverted.
If it remains flat and does not protude, u have flat nipples..
Check site to see how they look and details to verify ..at
www(.)babycenter(.)com/general/baby/babybreastfeed/8789(.)html
Check the link below in the page if u do doubt nipples are not protuding.
if u do, u can consult the lactation consultant in ur hospital, they will suggest if u can do something beforehand, briefly using breast pump also protudes the nipples for them to feed/massage/breastsheilds are also avl.
Here is a caution given : Do not overdo and stimulate ur nipples/massage often so just check this once/twice, because nipple stimulation done often contract uterus because of hormone released..so its just a check not to be done often. If u do need advice, contact the lactation consultant (in the hospital u have registered..they help out a lot)
I am sure 90% of the mothers will be fine, becoz they say it automatically does protrude during pregnancy, my friend had this problem and realized after delivery so took time to understand..and find a soln. with her consultant, and could feed later.so don't get worried. Her baby has been late in feeding but is very healthy and cute and regularly feeds now..so it can be solved easily.
Take care
