Eating Problems:still eating grinded food
2004-06-07
Name: Beena Kalra

Hello

My son is 1 year old but he is still feeding on grinded food. What should I do to teach him to eat rice like we do. I doctor suggests to begin with a coarse grind but he'd still throws up. How do I train him? I'm getting rather worried!

hi beena,
try giving food from ur plate at first. let him know that what u eat is different. at least out of curiosity he will try it. then u can gradually continue the same for him. but start coarsely mashing first ( with a fork) .
a tip for other parents: the best time to start coarsely mashed food is about 8 months bcoz babies at this age are not so fussy.

Try eating in front of the baby showing your teeth and how u bite at least 3 to 4 times a day and give Banana /apples/Carrots steamed or any soft item which you feel is ok like Tofu or Paneer etc try atleast for 10 to 15 days different items of fruits etc they will learn be patient.

Hi Beena

your son at 1 is too young to eat normal rice like we do. My daughter at 19 months still can't do it. You might want to over boil the rice and give it to him. do not grind it. But it wl almost get mashed when overboiled.
