how to start toilet training for my 15 month old baby
Mom replied. Hi Neetu,
Read the tips you posted which you got from you friend Shanthi. She is 100% right. I was remembering all these steps which I used when I trianed my daughter while reading it.
Now, when I read the last portion (tips on eating on their own), I thought I would post a question for you.
Yes, I sure need tips on making my dd eat on her own. She is actually 4 yrs now!. :<
I infact started working on this a long time back (when she was around 2 yrs.) and I thought I was suceeded too. But last year when I had my second one, she started insisting me on giving her more mommy time and that's how this feeding to her started. I am now scared that I won't be able to make her eat byself again.
Please help.

welcome to phase 2....(phase 1 is to get them to sleep thru the
nite)..toilet training.....first of all...it is never to early or
late to start....girls typically go quicker than boys!!! i know i
have both....here are some tips!!
if your child is 12months and above, start thinking, trying, talking
about potty....give them the words....example....kaka, poo-poo, pee-
pee, choo-choo, go wee, take your pick....our favorite is choo-choo
for number 1 and kaka for 2 :) then you can take them with u when
you go , to show them dynamics, and how they dont have to be
scared...this works for some, does not for others....
two: buy \";once upon a potty video and book\"; start to show it and
read about it...also, if you have not invested in one, get potty
seats for each of them!!! dont be a cheapskate....it is very
important for them to have ownership and control...that is what
potty training is about...so take them to the store and have them
pick it out!!
three: leave it lying around, time to time, have them play with it,
on it and get comfortable around it...dont just leave it in the
bathroom....this is only till they get comfortable with the potty
idea and seat!!
four: ask them every 15 minutes, if you should go to the potty, or
whatever the word you have picked...BE CONSISTENT! wipe them, wash
them, have them wash hands .....take them to the store and have them
pick out a funky bottle of soap..this encourages washing hands...
five: for slightly older kids, have some treats waiting outside the
bathroom..if they use the potty, give them a favorite treat...for my
kids, m and m's worked...this treat has to be a favorite treat of
theirs, this is motivation for them....
finally, whatever the cost...do not get mad, frustrated, yell, if
they go they go, if not dont make a big deal...remember, who has
heard of a kid in grade school, who wears diapers?.....it will
happen...with my son, it took him till three and a half years before
he was completely successful....s and m were trained before they
were three...my friend got hers trained by 14 months...so there is a
wide range...in hindsight, i find it is never to early....
good luck,
shanthi (beenthere and done that)
ppphhheewwww...
ps: phase 3, is to get them to eat on their own!! we are working on
that...we are 95% there....if tips are needed on that one, i am here
for you ladies.....18 months ..that is the ideal time to start on
that.....
