Sorry to hear about it, Maha. Why don't you try it when she is starting her breakfast? Put a few Cheerios on her high chair tray and see what she does. Don't give up hope. Are you giving her Gerber jar food? I have been preparing food for Shreya especially the veges. I thickened the food slowly and now I give her hand mashed veges. 'Slow' is the keyword here. Try thickening the jar food, if you are using it, with a little rice cereal or multi-grain cereal and then see whether she takes it.
Fresh food feeder is just a mesh bag with a handle. Iknow for sure that it is available in Babies r'us. You may also check it out online.

Does she take spicy food? I mean, just a little. If so, why don't you try idly dipped in very little sambar? Use very little sambar though and not very spicy. Initially make her lick sambar from your finger tip and see her reaction first. I have a feeling she might like it.

BTW, where are you from (in India as well as in US)?

I am going on a long vacation to India in a few days. If you would like to contact me then email to

Keep on sharing

Dear Sujatha,
Tq for ur info.Well,my baby was choked once and am afraid to give anything. Am happy reading bmom's suggestion. But i wonder whether I am proper mom or not ! I gave her Gerber Veg Puff but plays with that never puts in mouth. When I tried she frowned her face.
Sujatha ..u r right...I dont like juice at all(particularly in US)..thatswhy my baby hates it too.But I will try later.Sometime I feel water is better for her than giving juice n making mess !
Also she plays with sippy cup(playtex)...I keep in high chair always..she is not drinking from it though. Any suggestions !
Many thanks...hope Sheetal is also happy reading advice from other mom.
Good luck Shetal.
Take care
Maha

Hi Maha,
My daughter, who is 9 1/2 months now, doesn't like the taste of Gerber Veg Puff. She loves Cheerios a lot. She likes to eat(or gnaw :) strawberries if I hold it in my hand.

If you are afraid that your baby will be choking, then try Fresh food feeder by Munchkin. It is kinda like a mesh bag and can even buy it online. If you are buying this then buy extra mesh bags.

I tried a lot of sippy cups. She likes Avent (which has a soft spout) and Take & Toss cups by First Years. Everyday I have to offer water in 2 different cups and see which one she takes. She only takes water in these cups and doesn't like to drink juice or formula in them. May be try not to keep her in thehigh chair while giving water. Distract her by showing cars or singing rhymes etc.
Let me know how things go.

Oh and one other thing. My baby doesn't take juice either. Earlier she used to take 2 oz of juice but now she doesn't like them at all. I asked her Ped. and she told not to worry about it and asked whether we take any juice on a regular basis. I said NO. We all love water and that's what she likes too. So nothing to worry about.
May be try giving juice after a week or so and keep trying.

Hi Sujatha,
I will try getting Avent Sippy Cup and le u know whether she takes it. Unfortunately I tried giving her Cheerios today n she threw up what all she ate in the morning.Am scared n fed up of giving her any new food. She just plays with Cheerios too. I will look for FreshFood Feeder...btw what is this ??? am so dumb I guess !
Btw,if its chunk food , what shd be the texture. I tried idly(south indian dish) dipped in formula but she doesnt seem to eat.Shd i add sugar n try ? Well, ppl say that if u continue Gerber food , then they get Gerber syndrome eating only mashed food for a loooong time. is it so ?
If u r free Sujatha, reply me.
I will surely let u know after I try Avent Sippy Cup this w/e.
take care...btw whats ur baby's DOB ?

Hi Maha & Sheetal,
I have a 9 month old girl and I started giving Cheerios when she was 7 1/2 or 8. Earlier to that I gave her puffed rice and she loved it. May be I started the puffed rice when she was 6 months old.
Cheerios are the best as far as finger foods are concerned. You can even try pieces of cheese(shredded are the best)
May be later, you can try cooked carrots or beans etc. But I think I will wait to try them until she is 10 months old. BTW, she has 2 lower teeth. Don't worry if they don't have teeth. Their gums are very strong and they can chew on cheerios really well.
I also give teething biscuits, arrowroot cookies. She wants to hold them all by herself. She learnt to drop them and pick the cookie too and she thinks it is a game :)

Let me know how it goes.
