Due Date Club December 2005:Should we opt for epidural???

Hi Girls,

Now that the due date is coming nearer, so are many questions popping in my mind. Another one is should we opt for epidural during labour? Over net, a lot of opinions are available, both against as well as in favor. One of the main plus points seems to be that it helps in pain relief but negative point is that in case of vaginal delivery you wont realise when you got to push.

What do you think abt that? Whats the opinion of second time moms?

Warm Regards,
Deepti.

Hi, I'm from the Nov board ...
Epidural is the only blessing in a time that can be the most painful in a woman's life ... we should feel lucky to have this option. during my first delivery my nurse told me ..\";why do you want to bear unnecessary pain when you have something to make this time less painful.\"; the rest depends on your capacity to bear pain. Hospitals have a monitor to see when you are having contractions and the birthing team will ask you to push accordingly.... you just have to cooperate and listen to them.. all will go well... i suggest u take it and good luck!!!!

Hi Deepti,
I never wanted to take epidural because I had heard it gives back pain when you are around 40. With my first pregnancy, after 10 hours also I was just 5 cms dialated and my doc suggested to take epidural because then at last I won't have enough energy to push which might lead to emergency C-section. So I took it and what a difference.... with in two hours I was completely dialated and ready to push. I didn't feel anything at all but I pushed well. I just got one stich. The whole process was pain free. We are expecting our second baby on 3rd Dec. This time again, I am not going to ask for epidural right away. I will wait a little and see but I am not going to suffer for sure.
You also take a decision depending upon the situation. I hope my comments helps you little bit.
Awaiting good news from you.
Take Care,
Reshma.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
