Womens Issues:Pregnancy advice ?

Name: Purvitha

Hello my name is Purvitha.I am 24 years of age, married and a teacher by professsion.Last week itself I had been to my native place where in I learned the fact that I was pregnant.Since then me & my husband have been in the search out for a good gynaec. My husband was told from his friend in office about a good gynaec to whom he had gone for his wife's delivery.I asked a couple of people in my building & they sugessted the same gynaec.I asked a teacher & a very close friend who is just a few years elder then me & astonishingly or say coincidentaly she too sugessted for the same gynaec. She has 2 kids one aged 4 & another just over 1 & she was pretty impressed with the doctor. Now there is only one problem I face in going to this Dr. is that he is a man.I have only been to a gynaec twice before & that too a couple of years before my marriage because of minor vaginal infection.I remember having then often think & even having asked my mom,how females manage to get their checkup done from a male gynaec. It sounded so uneasy & odd to me & now I myself am on a stage when I am actually thinking of going to one. However,my opinion on this has definetely changed after seeing so many females been to him & having such a good opinion about him.To me having a safe delivery & a healthy child matters more then my personal comfortness. Its only that I dont want to make it a bit too discomfortable or embarassing for me.I know this is a something to be done based on personal verdict rather than other's opinion but still it would be very nice if U could give me an advice on this. Moreover I dont have much idea of what exactly happens during the checkup. Is there anything other thing than vaginal, belly exam & sonography that takes place. If I am not wrong vaginal exam is done to see the growth of the baby & sonography the position in the stomach. What is belly exam ? Is is done during only during the last few months when the belly has grown out or during the initial months too when it is relatively flatter. What is it done for ?.Are there any any other parts of the body checked too other than the stomach & vagina?.Will I be able to ask the doctor himself before the checkup for what checkup would be performed on me or during the checkup itself for any queries?.Would that be a problem for the doctor to answer them?.How long does the checkup take?.My husband is very keen to get my pregnancy done under him & to a great extent I myself am.Except for one reason,I dont
want to feel uncomfortable at any stage & step back because I know that will be bad for my baby
too.To be more frank I dont have much idea about what takes place during the checkup & how it is
done & so dont know if there is anything so very uncomfortable in it in first place.I asked my
mom & she too said I should go to the doctor if he is good & scolded me when I asked her if I
would be uncomfortable saying I was acting very smart. My friend too disagreed nodding her head in
surprise as if I had asked some very silly question to her.I would be a very big help from your part if you could give me a sugesstion on this & also on my above questions regarding the
checkup.Thanks in advance.

i am from chennai. i have a healthy baby girl. my gyno was a male. he was so perfect. i am on the fat side. and when i was pregnant lots of friends and relatives told me that i will have a c-section since i was fat. i was so worried. but this doctor. i would love to give his name. Dr. Kurian Joseph. he promised a normal delivery. and so it was. well, for all the internal and other check ups i was sent to his duties lady gynos. they would give him the report and had to see him finally for a final virbal note. even at the time of my delivery there were only lady nurses and doctors. and believe me at labour u would care less who is around u and what state u are in. this doctor he came to the delivery room i was almost half naked. but u know u could see there is no dirty look in his eyes. he was talking and checking me looking straight into my face. so go ahead. if so mamy recommend him dont hesitate, he must be good. to feel comfortable during check ups ur mum or sister can company u. all the best for u and ur baby. I wish u a safe and normal delivery. do a lots of walking after ur fifth month to have a normal and fast delivery.

Hi Purvitha

Lets understand it step by Step
1. What is more impotant you going to a excellent doctor or whether doctor is male or female
2. Doctor is like a GOd when you worship GOD do you think GOD is male or female ..Its a faith not action

3. Doctor don't have a gender thats why no wonder as doctress etc

4. How about if female doctor is incompetent or she can also have a baad feeeling well chances are there or someone might feel uncomfortable

5. If male doc wsa a Taboo GYN would have been baanned f ormales

6. Respect your doctor and believe in him

7. First 2 ultrasound will be vaiginal and after that Belly ie ultrasound via stomach

PLS GO AHEAD IF HE IS GOOD AND WORKS WELL LIKE HE IS NOT FAR , AVAILABLE etc etc
