Trying since long:Is everything alright? Archie, pls reply

Dear Archie,

My brief gynec history is as below.

We are ttc since May 2004.

I conceived (or at least I thought so) in July 2004. But I miscarried on Sept 02nd. Details are as below:
Last LMP was June 30, 2004
Next period was on Sep 02, 2004. I had severe cramps and heavy discharge containing big clots of blood and sac like structure which I was experiencing for the first time.
No DnC was done, as the doc in India confirmed through vaginal scanning and by inserting fingers that everything is clear.

I would like to mention the following points:

1)When I first visited for the check up, she didn't do any blood/urine test but directly jumped to vaginal scanning.
2)During this time, that is on 13th Aug 2004, I travelled by air to India and travelled by bus also (the unfortunate me!)while in India.

I think above 2 things must have proved fatal in my case.

My periods were of 30-33 days and were very regular till June 2004. My periods resumed on Oct 17, 2004(miscarriage happened on Sep 02 as said above). Next I had it on Nov 19th. But in December, I had it on 28th!! though very weak spotting was there on 26 and 27. And now this time also I got my periods today, i.e, on 01st Feb 2004. So I am seeing that periods are getting delayed.

I hardly used to have any pain during periods before. But now I have more pain. I can say after the miscarriage.

I had minor urinary infection(some pus cells found)in the month of Dec 2004 which I took medicine for. But didn't go for urine test again as the burning sensation while urinating subsided a lot after the medication.

Archie, kindly analyse my details above and let me know your comments. My age as on today is 28 years 9 months. My height is 5'3\"; and weight is 63kgs (sitting in front of pc whole day, no exercise :(

1)Do I need to go for urine test again?
2)Do you think that I have difficulty in conceiving and should visit gynaec soon?
3)I have symptoms like thin hair on the head and more than brownish facial hairs and body hairs also. Do these indicate something?

I am really stressed seeing our efforts to conceive going in vain.

Thanks and Regards
SoumyaS

Dear Soumya,
Patience is key to success while ttc.

You are worried a lot on hormonal situations although you don't say it with the words, referring to your hair growth and concerns. I believe there is nothing wrong with what you see, but if this is going to put your mind at ease then go ahead and have blood withdrawn by your Dr. to have hormone levels checked, FSH, LH, Progesterone, Androgen.

I am strong believer that without medical confirmation there is almost difficult to confirm pregnancy. Not saying you did not conceive during June to Sept period. But remember anovulatory cycle is likely per year. Periods/cycles are pretty regular for many girls while not ttc but gets turned into upside down while ttc, mainly because they know that they are ttc and create indirectly some stress on your body resulting in to hormonal imbalance. Finally the cycle is totally governed by hormones.

Do you have problem?
Don't look like to me. Wait till June 2005 before jumping onto gynecological assistance.

UTI and do you need to take another urine test?
Not necessarily but to keep aside worry and make sure the vaginal environment is healthy it would be good idea to get urine checked and confirmed that you are free from UTI. Remember in contaminated vaginal environment sperms won't survive and if you get pregnant in that condition given one sperm made to fertilize egg then that is likely to end before developing well. In my opinion you need to get treated first and make sure you are free from infection. Also have some antibiotic dose given to your husband, he may have something latent stuff will be cleared after treatment.
If your cycles are irregular and more than 40 days then you should see gynec today itself.

I would have loved to have you given exact cycle lengh not by dates in this case I will have to calculate and don't have enough time as I don't log for long time. You can tell me number of days in cycle for last four cycle and write a new post. I will thereafter guide and see what we hit in coming 3-4 cycles.

Good luck
Archie
