Feeding:Travelling to India with 15 mo.

Hello,

I am travelling to Chennai from Atlanta with my very active 15 mo. old son. Any ideas as to how I can manage with him on my lap during the flight. He does not like being held at one spot - he would rather run around. I am told that the airlines (Lufthansa) will not give a bassinet to an older baby like my son. So I am wondering how I would manage his meals or just a place to keep him.

Do you think it is worth buying an extra seat. But it is going to be very expensive.

I will appreciate any help.

Hi there
I don't think you may want an extra seat for your baby..They are still not ready to sit on their own. Only advice ask for middle row first seat..Atleast there will be more room for your baby to stand in between..Its hard but don't worry everyone understand..make sure he does not sleep before the flight so that you can put him to sleep after the take off..Keep him little awake on the day before the flight..
Carry lots of snack..that keep them busy too..some different toys which he has not seen at home so that he will be occupied.

Dear Aarti,

I travelled with my 15 month old son from US to India and back, last year on Lufthansa and we were given a bassinet seat for him as we requested. As far as I know, they do provide bassinet seats for infants under 2 years of age, depending on availability. For children 2 years and above, a separate seat has to be booked. This is based on my experience. You may want to check with the Airline to get their latest rules on this.

Bassinet seats are really helpful in the plane, as the babies would sleep for a long time during the flight. They are also helpful when food is served.

Hope this helps.

Jaya

Hi Jaya,

Thanks for your reply. I checked with Lufthansa who said that they allow babies 8 mo. and under to be on a bassinet. As per their policies, once a baby can stand, they are not allowed to be on a bassinet.

If my son ends up being on my lap, I plan to rely on cereal bars for my food. Otherwise, I can only imagine food spills all over!
