Hi Hetal,
I m a mother of 10m old, in Delhi. I was an active member of the boards earlier but now slowed down since i hv resumed office. cutting long story short. I hv some Qs about myself and want to seek ur advice for 2 reasons 1)the trust 2)i hv red u r a nutritionist so you are a right person to answer.
I am quite overweight and recently joined a gym. The dietician there asked me to do some medical tests and when the results came out, she has put me on a diet. I want to cross check that. I consulted my doctor but she had a suprisingly different opinion. Me confused, coming to you for advice.
Medical Tests -
1)My Triglycerides count has come out very high (358 mg/dl Normal: 25-160)
2)Thyroid count is within the normal range but dietician says its on higher side so i need to take care of diet (T3-150, T4-8.9, TSH-3.9)(Normal T3 100-190, T4 5-12, TSH 0.3-5.5)
3) Blood sugar fasting - normal results
Medical History:
- 2 yrs ago, between my 2 kids, my Thyroid was high and I underwent medication thru my gynae
- blood sugar was high in my last pregnancy but dint need medication
- Checked BP 2-3 times in past 4m which came out little high (120/90). But the doc said he cant accept those readings as I did that immdly post-office so I might hv been stressed/exhausted.
- Last BP reading taken on 4/13 was 126/80 - mid of office timings.
About me
- 15 kgs overweight
- 10m baby, still breastfeeding, but v little. In morning and night, more on holidays. Baby is fine.
I hv been working-out seriously at the gym for past 15 days but havent lost a gram. The dietician said its the thyroid-problem so weight will come down 1)slowly 2)i really need to follow her diet and avoid things that can enhance thyroid problem. Need to do it for 3m for some results.
Questions
The dietician has asked me not to eat following things. She is targetting Triglycerids and thyroid both thru tis. Want to check with you if it is ok or any changes?
Brocolli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Turnip, Beetroot, potato, arbi, lemon, Carrot, Raddish, Yam, all Citrus fruits, all melons, pomegranate, grapes, banana, Fats-ghee cheese butter etc. No corn in any form (maize corn - no steamed/cornflakes/cornflour etc)
She has given me a daily diet chart.
What I can/should eat - 4 soaked indian almonds morning empty stomach, proteins - curd, daal, paneer(once a week), tofu. Light biscuits like wheat biscuits (only 2/day), 1 cup tea, coffee once a week, skimmed milk, soya milk, leafy veg, beans, raw banana, brinjal, lauki etc, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, roasted chanas (with skin). I can have normal food (daal sabji rotu curd) with 1to 1 1/2 roti and salad helping.
What do u advicee? Is this good? Any addition/deletion? Anything surprises you that I should get validated?
Please suggest. This is not urgent as such so answer as per your convenience.
