Hi!Im a working mom. I send my 17 month old \";Prince\"; :D to day care. I actually pack food for him. He is still eating food in the form of paste only. Here's what i give him:
1)Powder rice, moong dal, toor dal and pressure cook them with tomato and ghee.
2)8 ozs whole milk with straberry flavour(Do u suggest anything else?)
3)Yogurt-La Cream from Dannon
4)Gerber
5)Cheese singles from Kraft
I actually want to move him from Gerber to something else which has fat in it(he needs to gain weight). I want to send him something light like yogurt so it is easy for him to eat and i dont need to cook. It is ok if you suggest me something that i can cook also. The other things that i can think of are pudding and jelly. Does any one feed their kids jelly and pudding. If so, what brands and where can i find him. Also i want to introduce non-veg to him. Remember he eats mashed to paste food. So where should i start. Are there any good soups that i can give him with good amount of calories and fat???
I apprecaite your help in fixing his menu. Thanks for your help.
Shalu

Here's the recipee to the rice dish:
Take equal parts of rice, moong dal and toor dal put them in the grinder and make them into powder. This powder you can use every day so that your job becomes easy. For three spoons of this powder add 6ozs of water. I actually buy tomato paste from safeway and add one spoon of it with a pinch of salt. Then pressure cook on low flame for three whistles. Cover the lid of the vessel otherwise it wont get cooked properly. Add ghee to it.
Some others are:
One is the Tapoica/Rice/Chocolate pudding (not the gerber ones) gerber ones does not have enough fat.If u want I will check out the exact brand. It is written\";old fasioned\"; on it. The other one is Knudsen Double Pineapple Cottage cheese singles. They are avl in many flavours pineapple, apple & cinamon, straw berry, blue berry. The other thing is Kraft American Cheese Food Singles. And then you can try out Dannon La Creme Strawberry/Peach/Vanilla Yogurt. It has more calories.
Im trying to move my son out of gerber. Since it does not have any fat in it. And then u can pack some cherios for a snack. You can also make idli and break it into small pieces so that he can feed himself.
My day care lady feeds my son. No he does not know how to feed himself.

Hi Shalu,
Glad to hear that your a mom to 17 month old too..I'm a working mom too and my dd is supposed to go to day care from next month. She is with her grand parents these days..I'm looking forward for some lunch box tips from you..
Some babies do like mashed foods so don't worry..You can grate carrot, cabbage steam it and pack it in lunch. You can pack steamed peas, corns..just mash it with fork a little...
You can give him high calories and fat soup by adding tofu or grated cheese. Add some cream to his soup..You can prepare mixed vegetable or tomato soup..Even paneer has lots of fats..Just pack some panneer too..

Well, I have some questions for you..What is powdered rice ..Do you prepare it at home? Appreciate, if you could help me out..IUf you could suggest some tips for lunch box that will be helpfull..I was thinking of paratha but don't know if it will work or not..Does your day care lady feed your baby or does he feed on his own?

Thanks in advance!
