Due Date Club December 2005:to archie Vaginal delivery after c-section
2005-10-24
Name: nandini

Hi Archie
hi
iam nandini based at dubai.i am due on 1st jan with my third baby.my first one was a vaginal delivery.the baby was large with a huge head.
the second just hardly two years back (3rd jan 2004) was supposed to be a vaginal i went into labour but he wasnt pushing hard.in the end it was a c-section.
now the third dr. has asked me what i want?
I ve opted for vaginal.
she said since I ve delivered a large baby (more than 9 pounds )(4.75kg)the first time.i can do a vaginal with ease again.
my second baby was 3.75kg we didnt wait for it go to fetal distress and took decision before that.
i had asked my dr. about uterus rupture and my chances of the kind of delivery she was confident that i can ve any delivery i prefer as of now.
I am in my 31 or 32 weeks.
what i understood frm the whole thing is a C-section is done if after 36 weeks or at the time of labour the baby is breach and ure unable to turn it head down.or if the baby is large (like my first one) or the baby has gone into fetal distress or c-section is ur choice of delivery.
i ve heard from my friends and one Dr.that as the months progress the wt of the baby on the stitches will increase and it can open up.so only way to know if such a thing will happen is regular sonography in last few months to note the progress as well we feel a tenderness at the stitches area.Uptil now i ve not felt anythng.also if the first c-section has been done within 2 yrs the chances of another is high.As is my case but my current gynaec has not told me so.
Archie,is it possible for me to ve a vaginal delivery?
Or ist it for me to wait and see.
thnks a lot

bi
luv nandini.

Nandini,
If I were you, I would listen to OB than friends! mainly because OBs are experienced inthis area and not friends. Friends are known to care but scare as well. You will find many who are horrified with thoughts and myths told by friends.

Lets get it medically. Can you have a vaginal birth at the end of 2nd year of previous C-section. The answer is YES.
Provided you have had a vaginal birth history and the decision of C-section was not due to small pelvis.
I think you delivered baby as big as 4.75 kg offers good confidence that you will deliver vaginally without trouble. Provided that you don't take negative thoughts on your mid while in labor. Don't let baby go in distress and that's only possible if you keep calm on your own.

As long as your C-section baby was one year or over while you conceived the vaginal birth is worth trying.

Try to avoid induction, which leads to C-section for previous C-section births.

Internal hemorrhage risk is fairly same for both last vaginal birht or C-section birth. I would not worry that too much. Say normally if you have had vaginal birth internal hemorrhage risk is 1% while for C-section it will be 2% I would not think it's too high, double but it's not really that big.

I had C-section due to fetal distress and slow progress and if I ever want second baby I would want it vaginal birth trial. That's too personal but thought of sharing with you.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
