Feeding:Is refusing Milk completely

My 2.9 yr old son has just taken a dislike to milk. He was running high temperature for 4 days after which he developed this dislike. He says he will cough it up if he does have. Even with food he says the same thing; however we try and persuade to have it. With milk he just starts screaming. Pls help. He had lost 3-4 lbs in 12 days. I do try and bottle feed him when he is asleep and that is the only way I can get him to have some milk

Hi Ella -

Since your son is 2.9 years of age most of his nutrition comes from solids not milk. Since he had a fever he probably isn't eating as much either which would explain the weight loss.

Have you tried adding chocolate flavoring, strawberry flavoring, etc? Maybe you can try to make a smothie for him (yogurt, milk, ice(optional)fruit and honey) Does he like milk shakes? He will like this.

At this age they need solids, try to give him food and he will regain the weight. As for the milk, is he on medication? Sometimes medication will upset the stomach and milk adds to that upset stomach. Medication can also change taste buds.

Some children just don't like the taste of it anymore. Try adding something to it for taste.

Subject:  Tks fr yr advice!

Hi Mother:

Tks a lot for yr advice. I do understand that my son being 2.9 yrs should depend mainly on solids. I agree. But what if his meals only consist of a couple of bites and only biscuits? This is very difficult for me as a mother to understand. At least a normal decent meal should be had by him and may be just a cup of milk at night. This is the only reason I am upset that he is refusing milk. However, since the last time, he has now slowly, but surely, begun to accept milk with milo. He says a big no to plain milk and does not know that milo is just added to milk of course.

Honestly, speaking I feel it is just an overnight change and he is so picky and choosy about what he eats and I give hm almost anything he asks for; however he will not hv it as a whole meal.
