my baby is 13 momth old.he is not standing & walking independently.he is walking by holding somthing or by support but not standing independently.help me.i think 13 month is late for standing.he stood by holding somthing from when he was 10month.plz help.
Hetal replied. when to worry about standing n walking :
1. when by 18months, your child cant walk.
2. at 12months, he cant stand WITH SUPPORT.
3. after standing or walking for several or first few days, doesnt walk or cries when walking or consistently walks on toes only !

since your child is able to stand with support, i will consider it as a normal delay and not a sign of worry.
try this :
1. hold his hands and make him stand. since he walks by holding someting or by support, hold his hands and make him walk...
make it fun time,,tell him left right left and increase n decrease the tone..continue doing that..tell me how he responds when you do that..we will work the next thing after that.
2. if he seems to be njoying, n you can judge how much his legs are able to support his body wght, loosn your grip on him,and walk with him, face to face, with eye contact and lots of smiles,,and yes lots of encouragement, and enthu... and repeat the same until you think he is able to bear his wght on his own legs and make himself walk.

DONT HURRY ! dont hurry give his legs time to bear his body wght,,if you will hurry, all will happen is he will get frustratd or even if he manages to do it, he wont walk straight or if he is heavy on wght side, he will have temp bow legs (that will go away once he is 3years old ! )..
give him lots of opportunity to practice this, be with him, and continue doing it, until you think he needs your grip...just tighten n loosn the grip when you hold him,,it will tell you how strong he is able to hold himself with your support n without your support !

if you are in US, i guess he will have his next apt at around 14month or 15months,,not sure which state you are in,,,ask your dr about it,,he has seen your child from day 1 and if he thinks that this is something that he doesnt expect from your child at this age,,,he will guide you further.for me,,this is all i can help you with !!
