Hi Archie
i have been reading all ur replies & am in need of advice.we have been ttc for more than a year & i had conceived last dec but m/c very early 46th day.

now i have conceived & it is only 37th day.i did ept & it came out positiveon 34th day & immediately went for blood pregnancy test(tuesday). My doc asked me to take the test again yesterday(thursday).the level was 50 & yesterday it was 73.

the problem is i'm going to India this sunday.one of the doc had called & gave the numbers & said that it is low & i may have a miscarriage. Is it true that the level is too low?? i'm a bit tensed now abt the travel.I'm going to India after a very long time & i'm worried whether travel will create more problem.

i have hypothyroid & am on medication(synthroid). Can u tell me why the hCG is low? or will it increase in a few days time.I'm hopeful that i will be able to carry on with the pregnancy. Please advice & do pray for me.Thanks a lot in advance.

Dear GS,

Let me give you a little background of hCG and how it works. This is a tale tell pregnancy hormone. There are a few more which are also important while getting pregnant and during pregnancy to count are Progesterone and Thyroid. The hCG and thyroid works in little different way, when hCG levels pick up then somewhere the thyroid levels are going to go down. At the end of first trimester you will attain the maximum hCG and will have nothing to worry.
The hCG levels are supposed to double each 36-48 hours. If your blood was withdrawn with a gap of 48 hours then sure you are having some trouble with hCG rise. However, I don't think your case is treated like any other, particularly when you have thyroid trouble. The best in your case would be following:

Do repeat your hCG profile in about 2 to 4 days and if needed get shots of hCG.

Also measure the levels of Progesterone and see whether it's required to administer for your case.

I would strongly ask you to forget on travelling to India. I am not sure if you are already travelling. In any event travelling in first trimester is awfully risky and when your hCG do not rise as they should what you must do is bed rest along with suggested above, hCG profile and Progesterone profile.

Good luck
Archie
