Due Date Club December 2005:Archie... please clear my doubt

Hello Archie,
Thanks a lot for your advice. I will stop the intake of sugar and salt. Earlier I used to walk for 1hr(30mins in afternoon and 30min in evening). But since I am planning to travel in 35th week I have reduced the walk to only 30 mins in afternoon.I am waiting for the reports, hoping that everything turns out normal then atleast I can make the travel in 35th week. If they ask me to travel before that then I think I will go for delivery in Pune only. Once after the baby is born then I will shift to my mom's place.
Archie I have one small doubt. Gync had mentioned that mine is a delayed conception.... My case goes like this..
I was supposed to get the periods in the month of December. It was delayed by 15days and I got it in the first week of January. So when I visited doc she did an internal scan and said that I have a Overian Cyst of 3 - 4cms. Due to which the egg is not getting released properly. So she told me to come once I get my periods.I got my next two period within 28days. But due to some personal problem I could not visit the Gync during the time of period and also later on. Thought that I will visit her in my next cycle. And I never got my next period as I was concived. When I did the home preg test it came out -ve for the first time but after 48hrs I got +ve. When I visited her she did an USG during my 5th Week and said that she could see only the sack and no fetal pole or heart beat. The USG was schedule after 2week during which the heart beat could be seen. Hence she mentioned in the report as delayed Conception... As per my LMP my due day is 3dec and also when I had my USG in 20th Week the report also said my due date as 4dec. Now the problem is.. my gync says the as I had a delayed conception my due date can move further. But due the leg swelling there are chances that it may be earlier also... So I am in confusion now... as when I can expect my little one. Also since I am travelling by train at the end of my 35th week, need to know how safe it. The journey is going to be a night one. Will leave Pune in night 11PM and reach the native place around 8AM the next morning.
Please suggest what should I do. Even if the report comes normal then should I do the travel?

Dear Ammy,
Please do not coat me for what I am going to write. I can throw my opinion and you can make healthy choice thereafter.

1. should you travel in 35th week by train?
I do not recommend girls travel after 34 weeks although baby is being matured at the end of 36th week. This is my way to avoid any trouble in case one ends up in preterm labor.
Train is safer to travel as you are not likely to suffer from jerks, which you could get on Indian Roads by taxi, car or bus. If the Railway is fast then things would be even more easier to avoid number of stops. But that goes against in case one ends up in labor.
In your case you should have an internal examination about 2 days before the journey and if all is fine with cervix (close and not effaced) then most likely train journey in 35th week is OK.

2. Due date confusion with delayed conception and advanced labor (a possibility) due to fluid retention:
I do not think you have a delayed conception. Because from what I know there are many who fail to see fetal pole in 5th week and heart beat starts anywhere after completing 6 weeks. So if the delayed conception is based on failure of heart beat then that's not the case with your pregnancy. You heard heart beats in 7th week and that's fine. Besides date can change by 2 weeks ahead or post estimated from first ultrasound. This is due to growth of fetus can be faster or slower in some cases. The concern is when the due date is spaced over 14 days from previously estimated due date (ultrasound is what I am speaking not LMP). So your case is not delayed conception.
Fluid retention is not a very good trait to think your labor would be advanced. Yes, but the continued fluid retention is not nice with reference to possibility of high blood pressure, which in itself force you to have a early delivery. If you can keep your fluid retention on the bay most likely you will do excellent with BP and no hypertension.

I would wait for reports before judging case and also an internal examination just a day or two before train journey. Let me know all the updates. Generally first labor lasts for longer period but one can't swear on that as each pregnancy is different and each body is different.

Good luck
Archie

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
