Aggressive Kids:beating other kids

Name: Kaushik

My Son is 6 and a half years old and is studying in primary school. He is a premature baby and was born on the 30th week of labour.since 18 months he was going to a full time childcare centre as my wife and i both work in singapore. He is very hyperactive and sometimes very aggressive. He is our only child and so we also give our attention to him.But he gets angry easily with his cohorts or even bigger children and beats them when provoked or if he do not like them coming in his way.We have been talking to him and asking him to be gentle and nice to others and also not to beat the children. He will say yes and will be nice only for a while .But still at times he exhibits this kind of behaviour. He is not friendly with girls who are of his same age.But in the childcare until last year he had good girl friends since they were together in the childcare for 4 years. But other than prefer to play with boys.In this regard we need to seek your help to understand his behaviour and to get him behave well.
What can we do to chnge him. Please advice.

Regards
Sundar

Hi Sundar,
I can very well understand how it feels. My girl of the same age is being bullied by a boy who's very aggressive. The counsellor of this boy told me what she does to get him to behave-ignore his demands; dont be protective about him or give me any attention; if he gets aggressive, you get passive and act like he is not around at all-it would help as he would realise he needs to come out of any situation he has got himself into.Aggressive and demanding kids need to be taught responsibility for their actions- and though it hurts, trust me, its for their good!
And seriously, there shld be no concern on not playing with girls-the kids are just beginning to identify their gender.
don't panic and worry too much-its only a passing phase!
