Health Issues:How does me drinking cold water affect baby?

Name: Manju My baby is 10 days old. Everybody in my family, my mother my mom-in-law aunties are telling me to drink water that is not hot nor cold, but water just less than lukewarm as they say my breastfed baby will catch cold.

By the time water that goes in my body and converts into milk its too long. How does temperature of water that i drink affect my baby?

pls advise as i am used to drinking cold water only. Others dont quench my thirst.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts mom and sheetal. But I will continue with warm water for a while as i hv already started it and gradually move to cold. Juz wanna be cautious for the new baby and also that baby is sued to it now i think mom's point might hold true.

I shall also check with my doc. mom let me know how it goes for u as you try it out.

so if u drink cold water and immdly feed the baby, ur body temp has dropped, so has your BM temp, .. and now feeding this changed BM to baby may cause cause.

So if drinking cold water and feeding baby 30 min later will cause cold? I m not sure.

i will also check with my doc now.

its a trouble for me heating the water everytime or trying to keep it warm.

i also gv warm formula to baby but after reading abt u i guess i will slowly shift her to cold formula and see if she is ok with it

if this works u are saving a lot of effort and time for me dear!

my personal experience

i drink chilled milk right from fridge. my baby never had cold attack.
she is 9months old. i bf my baby until 5months and i was drinking chilled milk from next day after delivery.
my baby drinks cold tap water formula. she is just like me. she does not like warm formula at all. she is healthy and very active baby.i don't think drinking cold liquid gives cold to baby.
i asked my ped about this when my mother in law insisted that i should have warm milk during pregnancy and during bf etc.even during my pregnancy i had chilled milk with chocolate powder 3 times a day. i live in canada and weather is mostly chilled here.

my ped said cold is caused by virus and not cold temperature. and in post of viral infection & cold also, hetal had mentioned that cold is caused by cold air/wind, allergens and virus. so keep your baby covered if you want to avoid cold attack.
you can search on internet too, i did lot of research on it and made my mother in law read that. unfortunately i have not saved the search results or else i would have pasted them for you.

why don't you ask your doctor about this. my gyn and ped was okay with it.
that was my personal experience.

I also had same q when i had a baby and always asked elders for scientific basis to this suggestion but they din have an ans.

Then my elder sis told me one theory. I havent checked this with doctor, but i found it scientifically agreeable so dint worry any further.

The normal temperature of babies bodies is little less than ours (i guess by 1 degree or so). When we drink hot/cold water, our body temperature increases or decreses accordingly, though little. The temp of BM also impacts and its temp changes a little. Our grown up bodies can adapt to this temp change but for newborns, this change might be more than adaptable. Hence it can cause cold to babies.

I found this agreeable but m not sure. May be someone like Hetal can validate and tell exact reasons.
