Problems in School:First Grade Teacher--and-CLASS bully
2003-11-11
Name: M.Shreedharan

I live in a nice suburban area in the US. I have a little girl in first grade.

I have issues with my daughter's first grade teacher.

When my daughter came home with a clump of her hair in her backpack because a little boy in her class pulled her hair out, I questioned my child's teacher and she said \";Oh well, kids play rough and she cried, but she didn't cry too much!\";. I was even more upset, I asked the teacher if she planned to talk to the boy's mother or if he was punished. She didn't give me a straight answer.

I have had other incidents with the teacher and this bully. I need some advice on what I should say or do.

My little girl is very sweet, tiny, dainty, but very good in school, not just cute, but smart.

Please help me, I am a Mommy just wanting my little girl to have a good education and not let this negative stuff to effect her.

There is no need to take nonsense like that (from the teacher & the boy). If the teacher is not adressing the situation immediately, you must speak to the principal & you should complain to the board of education that the teacher is negligent & not taking care of the kids in her class -- she is allowing your daughter to be bullied. You must not put up with that at all.

Since this is not a once only incident,I would suggest you to once again take it up seriously with the teacher and make it clear to her that bullying is not acceptable to you as a parent especially if this is affecting your child. If the classteacher isn't helpful, you could perhaps speak to the next one in charge. Parallely speak with your daughter and ask her to remove herself from the scene where possible when the bully is around. If nothing helps ask the teacher to change her class or even I would go as far as changing the school if practically possible. Bullying can sometimes have very serious consequences for children.
