hey lakshmi,
try buying 5 and 3lb dumbells at a sports store and start lifting them. Hold the dumbells in each hand(even weights meaning both 5lbs or both 3lbs)and lift your arms in front of you. Do this in a multiple of 6(consider one set) and lift them away from your body to your sides. This builds your soulders and arms. Now reverse your palms(facing up with the weights) and do the same...lift arms in front of you and then to the sides. Now hold the weights down and lift arms towards you. There are many more you can do but start with these and tell me how it is going. It is true that your appetite will return around 13 to 15 weeks after the placenta takes over the care of your baby. From them onwards you could workout upto your comfort level. I' ve seen ladies at my gym doing intense workouts in their 8th and 9th month, but since you already lead a very sendentary life i would not recommend anything so drastic. Be reasonable with your body. What you could do at this stage is to maintain a good healthy diet. Start practicing this from now on. And yes, you could start going to gym starting 3 or 4th month after your baby is born. B' cos this is when the baby' s usually start sleeping through the night, hence you could get enough rest to start trying new things. Be in touch and take care.

lakshmi,
I' m happy that you are thinking about being healthy while pregnant and not thinking much of food. Since you' ve been on a slightly healthier side since your birth, here' s what i recommend :

1. Start thinking in terms of what makes you eat more or work less. Write it down since that way, you can read it or add to it whenever you need inspiration or modification.

2. Motherhood brings about lots of changes in a woman. Some for the better and some for worse. But let' s not think negative here. Think about everything in terms of what you want to pass on to your child. Whether it be food, being fit or health.

3. You can still walk while pregnant. Lift easy weights like 5lbs at the gym, else work at home. Start munching on veggies once you do get your appetite back.

4. Whether you are healthy now or not, you do need your pre-natal vitamin and calcium and iron supplements while pregnant. Pre-natal vitamin provides folic acid(very-very imp for the development of your child' s brain) and calcium and iron for your body to support this growing baby inside you. Don' t ignore your medications.

5. Take every opportunity to go out for a walk and lift easy weights at home. Start practicing some good healthy eating habits now so you can ease into them after the baby without having to feel like foregoing anything.

6. Join some lamaze classes(child birthing classes)where they teach you lots of exercises to keep your body flexible a this time.

7. Also, check your neighbourhood gyms if anyone is offering any exercise program for pregnant women. Join them and see how you feel.

8. Keep away from unhealthy food(greasy, oily, fatty, sugary) and have a healthy happy baby. Good luck.
