Due Date Club December 2007:Calcium supplement

Hi,

At the moment, I have not been prescribed any
calcium supplement. I am just wondering whether
I should be taking any supplement for calcium
at this stage or not. Is overdose of calcium
any cause of worry? I generally take 1 glass of
milk a day.

I would appriciate any input on this.

Thanks,
Puja

Puja,

I am from Jan board and they say that you should have atleast 3 serving of calcium rich diet in form of milk, yogurt, buttermilk etc. Try to increase your calcium intake as your baby need it to develop bones in body.

Also reason iron and calcium are not taken together is because calcium decreases iron absorbtion in body. Dont take iron tablet immd after having milk etc.

Hi Puja,

I have just entered 6th month of pregnancy. I am taking calcium supplements one tablet a day from 4th month onwards. You should increase your milk intake and ask your doc for calcium supplements. My doc has prescribed me iron supplements also. It is recommended to have atleast 2 hr gap between intake of calcium and iron for proper absorption. I am taking calcium tabs. after lunch and iron after dinner. Never take both iron & calcium together. Bye. Take care.

Yes, calcium supplement has to be taken. This is mentioned in all the books/ sites related to pregnancy.
I take CCM as advised by my doc. This has calcium as well as Vitamin D3.
It is better to ask the doc abt this.

take care,
Viju

Not to worry
If you want a normal delivery, ask your doc first to try vaginal delivery if not then go for forceps delivery where baby can taken out with the help of tongs...
