Hi, My son is 20 mnths old , he has a sudden cough developed.. i guess its due to the temperature change.... can anyone suggest what i can do best about it..I dont want to give him any cough suppressant or anything now...

now that your baby is 20months old, you can offer him milk with turmeric,,boil it and strain it thru mesh(to avoid creme) and offer it warm.. pref at nights and early morning.
your baby is 20months so i feel free to mention some other tips :
1. avoid other dairies as much as you can,,however, offer him regular milk feeds thats all.
2. give diet full of Vit C,esp fresh room temperature orange juicee,,,even sweetlime juice is better,,if you get it.taking other fruits like apples,pears, grapes,grapefruit,pineapples,peaches and melons all at room temperature will help.
other foods include warmsoups(with lil ginger, garlic and onion) in it and well toasted bread or warm paratha with mint chutney(no chillies,avoid chillies),,your 20month old might like the taste,,addin crushed jeera to it.

3. drinking warm water thru out the day will reduce the severity of cough and will cleanse the bowels.
4.let your baby stay in a room with a warm mist humidifier onn,,,it will help him soothe his congestion. or stand him for a couple minutes in the closed bathroom wherein a min before a hot shower was onn...dont leave your child unattended around hot water..
after every episode of coughing, give your baby warm water with some ghee(boil water, addin ghee)..it will soothe him and wont give him sore throat...
with coughin and cold(with mucus),,ginger and honey remedy is also widely used..juice the ginger, add in honey with equal ormore part helps to loosen mucus,,but check for ne heat rashes,some babies get heat rashes with it,,so give the amt only on the day your baby had a bad cough with lots of mucous throwup or vomits...,give once a day before sleep.
give lil,just 1/4th tsp,,and not more..

and if the cough stays for more than 2 days,,please get him checked by your dr,instead of trying nething else..if the cough is because of teething or just a mild cough,,it is expected to go off by 2-3 days and not after that.
keep checking on colour of mucus if ne,,ne colour that is dark, greenish,red or pinkish, is not a good colour and you need to check with your dr immediately...
