Hi Jaya. Hope you are well. I read one of ur messages where u suggested that u ate Upma. I have been having a fetish for the same but don't know a simple recipe for it. Could you be kind enough to tell me how you make it. Thanks.

Hi Simmi

Great to hear from you. How did your urine test go on? Did u get the results of why there were traces of blood. I am sure everything will be OK. - have been praying for you. Its great that you're +ve and staying calm - wish I could be like that. You're already trained to be a Mom :)

I'm not the greatest cook, so here's my simple recipe for Upma. As I have GD I make it out of Cracked wheat which is similar to Bulgur. You can make it out of Sooji.

Ingredients
Cracked wheat/ Sooji - 1 part
Water - 3 parts
Onions chopped fine
Red chilli -1 or 2 (can use green chili too)
Optional - mixed Vegetables like Carrot, potato, beans & peas diced small.

Seasoning
Oil/ghee
mustard
urad dhal
curry leaf
Optional - Chana dhal

1. Roast the cracked wheat/ sooji - make sure not to brown it. Set it aside.
2. Heat oil in Kadhai. Add Mustard and when it splutters add urad dhal, chana dhal and curry leaf and chilli.
3. Add onions and fry for a minute. If you are using vegetables add them here and also some turmeric. Add salt to taste. Fry all till vegetables are just cooked. (Sometimes for added taste, I add a little sambhar powder to the vegetables.)
4. Add Water to the above mixture and let it boil.
5. When water is boiling, add cracked wheat/sooji slowly while constantly stirring. Close with a lid and let it cook. Sooji usually cooks faster. Cracked wheat may take a little more time.
6. Garnish with coriander.

If you're using vegetables, then I guess its called kichidi.

Hope this recipe turns out well and satisfies your craving. Happy cooking!!

Jaya

Hey Jaya. Thx a ton for the Upma recipe. Would surely try it asap. Have to go to the Indian store soon!

Avi, glad to hear u have same craving, but I bet u will cook it better than me!! Rain is back here and after a heat wave last week, it is getting cooler by the day, so I have taken jumpers out too...looks like winter will soon be here!
Will let you know when I make it Jaya. Thx again!
Enjoy...

Hey Jaya, thats exactly what happened to me this morning after reading Simmi's message..

so Simmi - you did this to us.... :)

I have the same kinda cravings as you used to...I hear/see someone (even if it is on tv) eating something, I have to have it..

I will go to the Indian store from work today and get the sooji, I will go crazy for Upma otherwise...
I dont like eating in Indian restaurants cause everything seems so much more greasier there than at home..and the fat me doesn't need a lot of that oil right now..
thanks for the recipe..

Hi Avi

Thanx for the welcome....I feel so much better after joining this board. I keep checking for messages every now and then :)

You know, during my initial pregnancy days, if anyone would tell me that they had craved for something during their pregnancy, my craving for that fod would start immediately. I had no cravings of my own and just borrowed it from others !!

Now after hearing from both u and Simmi, I started this UPMA craving and then I realised that "Hey I am anyway eating it everyday".. Hmmmm .... sure makes my daily meal sound more appetizing....thanks guys !!!!

Jaya

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a Diaper Service Provider in Bangalore? They generally provide cloth diapers and replace them with a new set every 2-3 days.

Thanks in advance
