Due Date Club December 2005:Sugar problem - dear friends and archie!

I recently got my 7th month US and everything looks normal. The baby is healthy and weighs 1.3 kg, which is slightly heavy for the 27th week. My doc advised me to do a blood and urine test.

My blood and urine report both show high sugar post lunch. Plasma glucose is 167! And even the urine report shows OCCULT BLOOD - some red blood cells r present. I am very worried abt this. Looks like gestational diabetes. Nobody in my family has history of diabetes. But now my gynac has advised me to meet a diabetes specialist tmrw. I cant wait till i see him and know how serious it is. Hoping that by diet it can be resolved.

What do you all think about it ?

Hi! Rids
DO NOT WORRY!!!
I recently got diagnosed with GD too..just last week...nothing to be scared about...cut down on carbs, karelas are good, paneer...and walk for 30 min. after every meal...all these have helped me....i hope i do not have to take insulin..that's my goal anyway, but hey we just need to tackle it....and it is not that hard..actuallyI have ended up eating healthier than i previously was!!!!!

Hi Rids,

I have seen two of my close friends go thru GD and it was quite ok. They both had to control their diet, switch to different kind of meals, walk a lot and also take Insulin shots. Their deliveries were also normal. So there's nothing really to worry about. Just follow what the doc says.

Regards,
Raji

Don't worry. GD can be controlled thru diet, and if not with insulins. Pl go thru the posts in Oct board for diet. Its nothing serious.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
