Due Date Club January 2006:False labor

Hi all!

This is a very exciting time with all the babies being born. I check the site every day and look forward to reading that another boy or girl has been born.

Last night I had false labor. I tell you, if I was a first time mom I would have thought that it was true labor and left for the hospital. As it happened, at about 7pm hubby and I took in a movie and I was having contractions, so half way through the movie we had to leave the movie theater thinking I was in labor. Since the boys were already at my in-laws house we decided to go home and pack our bags and get ready to go to the hospital. However, when I got home the contractions were not coming at regular intervals, but more importantly they weren't getting any stronger. We decided to sleep at my in-laws house in case if it was real labor we could just leave the kids and go to the hospital.

Although I didn't go to the hospital, I was awoken every half hour or so from the strong contractions. However, at about 7am this morning the contractions subsided.

I had a couple of contractions since and it is now 11:00am. However, I told my hubby to in-laws to go to work because I don't think today will be the day. Although I had to argue my case with them (they didn't want to leave me alone) I assured them that I felt a lot better...and I didn't plan on staying in the house all day anyway. hahahah.

Today is LJ's first day at pre-school and I determined to get him there! = )

Good luck to all!

Cha = )

Hi Cha,
I am from the feb board and am due on 3rd Feb.
This is my second pregnancy - with my first pregnancy - I experience False labour - at least thats what I thot it was. I was experiencing contractions which were only getting stronger, but was bearable. My mom was with me so she told me that only if it becomes unbearable we will go to the hospital. My hubby was working late and when he came in, I told him to sit with me - we sat till abt 4:00am in the morning, and the pain started subsiding - I managed to sleep for abt 3 hrs after that - when I got up I didn't feel any pain and assuming it was false labour starte to get ready to go to work. My husband insisited that I see the doctor at least once (as it was the first time for us) before heading for work. I went to see the doc and she told me that I had dilated 2 cms further - and we rushed to the hospital - where I delivered Aarya, by 5:00am in the morning, the next day.

Hi RV, Archie, KB, and Shanthi,

Archie, I'm due on Jan. 8th. I've heard that in subsequent pregnancies babies may not descend until right before birth. Is this true? I feel something like lots of pressure and a heavy feeling, so I'm thinking maybe the baby descended.

RV, KB, and Shanthi, these were just strong Braxton Hicks contractions that I was getting. I think the main way to tell the difference is by the timing of the contractions. If they come at regular intervals, and continue to get stronger then it is true labor, however, if they are not regular in strenth and timing then most likely it is false labor. These Braxton Hicks were very uncomfortable, and it was difficult to distinguish between them and real contractions, I determinded that it was false labor by the timing and strength. (I've never had false labor before, so it was new for me).

Even though this is my third pregnancy, I'm just as nervous as if it were my first. hahahaha. Not so much because I don't know what to expect, but because I know almost exactly what to expect. However, the good thing is that after your baby is born you will quickly forget all about the pain of labor.

Love,

Cha = )

Dear Cha,
Yes, for multiparous mother (subsequent pregnancy) lightening may not occur 2-4 weeks prior to actual labor like for Primaparous (first time pregnant) mother. BY and large lightening (descending baby or engaging baby) takes place less than a week prior to labor for multiparous mother. Again this isn't 100% fact but over 95% would follow this pattern.
While with Advait, although I was primaparous he was not engaged until I was in real labor.

The pressure you explained sounds like lightening. If you also go to restroom like in 5-6th week of pregnancy and that breathing has been easier than last few weeks then lightening is most likely taken place. Nonetheless labor for you should be on it's way. I don't think this boy would be delayed like Aarun, may be he will be on time or a day before, get excited. I could be very wrong however in judging your case.

Hi cha,

Could you please explain to me how the pain was? I at times get severe lower abdominal pain.. but just once a day and when I drink water, it is all gone. Is this supposed to be BHC or false labour? or did you get back pains as the usual labour? and what am I supposed to do to find out that whatever I am getting is a false labour?

Thanks,
KB

Cha, keep an eye on fetal movements?
Do you feel baby descended? If it's the case then count in about 48 -72 hours if not then can't say.but this is helping your cervix to soften and may be to some extent dilation.

Hi cha, thanks for sharing your incident. It is helpful to learn more about false labor for first time mommies. I am waiting for the big day now. Hope everything goes well. Main thing is i am worried that i may not know when i am having contractions or real labor, haha.

Take care and all the best to you.

ramya.
37weeks 2 days.

Have any of you pierced your baby' s ears? Where did you get it done? Were you able to change the earrings after the piercing and put on indian ear rings? My pediatrician does not do it, and she suggested that i take tanvi to the mall. Pls share your experiences at the mall if you' ve had any.

Ear piercing
My daughter was 5 months old when we decided to get her ear pierced. The non medical ear piercing options are painful and unsafe with possibilities of hepatitis, viruses and even HIV and I can never recommend it. My husband and I were looking for a safe, modern, gun shot piercing option which is completely safe, pain-free and with a traditional touch as well.
