Feeding:Feeding solids to 6 month old

Name: Hema

Hello all,

My daughter is 6 months old and I started giving her fruits/vegs. I have a question regarding mashed vegs/fruits. When mashing, should milk be added? If so, can anyone tell me how much of milk needs to be added (the proportion)? How much of mashed vegs/fruits should be fed to a 6 month old?

Thank you,
Hema

Hello Sappi,

Nice to keep in touch with you. I am from Madurai and at present we stay in Germany.

I think, Anjali is sleeping late because she is having 2 hours sleep during the evening time. May be you can try to vary this pattern and see. May be you can play with her during the evening time and then she will sleep a bit early. Sometimes the children change their pattern on their own. Does she well during the night?

I have another question for you. When do you feed solids to Anjali? At fixed times (for eg. 10am and 4pm) or you feed her 2 hours after milk or something like this?

It is getting difficult for me to follow a fixed time schedule as Arati sleeps at varied times! I try to give her solids 1 hour after feeding. Sometimes I wonder if she is not hungry enough.

Have a nice day. Take care.
Bye, Hema

hai,
v r fine.enjoyed ur weekend.
it's ok to feed like that.c that her head is little bit high in position.after a week try again in sitting position.
in first stages i use to make her sleep on pillow and feed her.
actually solids should be started with cereal.start with with rice cereal then oatmeal....
take cereal in bowl mix it with milk (beast milk or formula) in consistency as she likes.
does arati sleeps well at night.anjali goes to bed in btw 12:00 to 1:00 mid night.
ok bye,
take care.

Hello Sappi, Hope you are having a nice weekend. I also used to put Arati in a pillow and feed her. Now I am putting her on my lap/ sitting for a short time and so on. She is more interested in crawling and sometimes she runs away. I also shift the place and somehow feed her!

Arati goes to bed around 9-10pm. She wakes up once or twice to feed. Does Anjali sleep well during the day/night? Just before she goes to bed for the day, make her play a lot (kicking her legs), then she will feel tired and will want to sleep.

I am just curious - what is your full name?
Till the next time. Bye, Hema

Hello Sappi,

Nice to hear from you. How are you and Anjali? Luckily, yesterday we found a position where Arati eats well. She lies down on my lap, plays and eats. Yesterday, for the first time, she ate quite well. I was very happy.

I am not sure if babies can be fed when they are lying down. Sometimes it worries me if it will cause choking. Now and then I make her sit and burp her.

How often do you give solids to a 7 month old. Now I am giving only twice - veg in the morning and fruit in the evening. I am not giving any cereal. I want to start oats. How are you doing?

Have a nice weekend. I will write to you after the weekend.
Bye,
Hema

hai hema,
nice name.i have 8 mon old girl and her name is anjali.now she is standing and walking with support.
if u want to start giving rice here is a good way.
1 cup of rice soaked in water for 1hr then pat dried using a towel.toor dal & moong dal each 1 tbsp.fry all these seperately and grind them together to powder.
cook 1 to 2 sp daily in pressure cooker for 2 whistles.
this digests better than direct rice for the starters.
if u like u can add ghee.i add water and 1/2 sp of her formula.i also give her parle-g biscuits soaked in water for a min .she likes a lot.
u can start these after 1 or 2 weeks she is goin to be 7 1/2 mon by that time.
have fun with ur baby.
bye
sappi.

Hello Sappi,

Nice to hear from you. Hope you are having fun with Anjali. I am planning to start rice in a week. I will try your way. Arati does not enjoy eating so much. As soon as I put her in her seat for eating, she senses something, eats 2-3 teaspoons and then starts moving, wanting to come out. I have to do lot of pranks to make her eat. I try putting her down, on my lap, moving to other place. But it does not work. Do you have any idea - How do you feed your child?

Take care,
Hema

Hello Sappi, my daughter's name is Arati. By the beginning of next month, she will be 7 months old. She started crawling/sitting by herself.

How about you? Do you have a son or daughter?

Thank you for the suggestion once again.
Bye,
Hema

hai,
it's the right time to give the solids.boil the veg or fruits and puree them if needed add some water.if milk is added u can't store it.carrots and spinach should not be stored as they contain nitrates and they are harmful for the baby.start giving 1 tbsp and increase to 3 tbsp.give 1 fruit and 1 veg daily. hope u follow this.

Thank you Sappi for the suggestion. I will try with water. My daughter takes the fruits/vegs if they are like juice (watery). She takes carrot juice/apple juice/banana/papaya. She did not like Spinach somehow. Is it ok if the vegs/fruits are quite liquid at the start?

Thank you,
Hema
