Hi, i have a 11 month old and i'll be going to india next month. Doctor advised not to give anti-malarial pill for the baby bacause of my baby's weight. What are the steps i need to take to prevent malaria? I am very much worried about it.

Hi,
Apart from the tips given by Jayashree,
you can try these :
1) Ask you people to seal windows with meshes.
2) Keep mosquito (you get electric ones now.) repellants
in all rooms.
3) Avoid going out after dusk.
4) Buy lots of full sleeved cotton shirts and pajamas.
** This is the best
5) Find out a good pediatrician(preferably the younger generation, they undestand the US concepts) in India and consult with
them after you land, they may prescribe some ointment or repellant.
6) Scented oils, baby powders, lotions attract mosquitos. Buy fragrance-free.
7) Mint leaves are supposed to be good mosquito repellants - check out.

Enjoy your India trip.

hi

am also travelling to india nextmonth with my 9 month old :-). just dont go out and when u r at home, always put mosquito repellent. use mosquito net. only this can be done. ask ur people to get mosquito net for baby in advance. dont ever leave ur child outside in bare body. dont allow any visitors (though it hurts) if they had malaria recently (a few days before - for precaution).

hope this helps.

have a good trip. happy journey.
