Hi all..I bought white oats & dont knw properly how to consume them..i.e whether to boil them in water n add milk n drink...so can anybody help me ...

There' s one more method with oats.If u prefer buttermilk or curd to milk,then u can add little salt with oats when u r coking it in water.Then mix it up with curd or buttermilk.

There r 2 methods here - either u can boil them in milk - which is rich n creamy - or u can boil them in water till cooked then add a lil bit of milk just before eating - its ur choice according to ur taste.

1 cup oats (roast them a little if possible- optional)
2 or 2 1/2 cups water ( or milk)
a pinch of salt
bring to a boil then simmer for 5 mins - if liquid is getting dried up then add more - no rules here.
mix in sugar and milk if not used previously - and enjoy with buttered toast.
That wuz the basic way to prepare it - no keeping this u can do a lot of experiments, and variations.

Variations:
For variety n to jig it up a lil i do the following which my kids love :

while cooking i add a lil elichi powder , and lots of raisins - cook as above.

u can also add powdered almonds and cashews if u love the taste of nuts.

add chopped banana while cooking - can add cinamon powder too if u wish.

saute some apples with butter and cinammon powder and sugar - add to porridge while cooking.

add apricots,raisins, nuts or any fruit u desiire and enjoy.

u can also make savory(though not my fav ) - like u temper for khichidi etc - onions,garam masala,gngr grlic paste, coriander,lil mint - water then the oats salt - cook as above .
Just ......create.....!

this is a very nutritious and filling meal for kids especially breakfast - very quick and easy and delicious too .
