Problems in School:What to do when teachers make mistakes?
2009-07-23

Hi- My son has started going to UKG in a prestigious school in south Blore. I have observed that the standard of his teacher is not very good and she has made a few mistakes which my son himself found out. But he did not raise it in class as he is afraid that the teacher may get angry.
Now, my dilemma is whether I should directly confront the teacher about her mistakes? What if she gets defensive and shows her anger on my child who is just settling down? Or should I approach the Asst-Principal? Will this be more embarassing for the teacher?

What should I advise my child-If I encourage him to speak up in the class, will he be branded as ' over-smart' ? If I ask him to be silent, am I teaching him to be a silent spectator to wrong things, not only this but many other such things which may occur in his life? I realise that in abroad teachers never get offended when parents give such feedback but here, teachers do not like when confronted. How should parents deal with such issues with the school?

Any advice would help
Confused parent.

I' m from the UK and I can assure you teachers will get offended if you point out the mistakes they made - and even more offended if a pupil does it! (It happened to me, long ago).

By all means complain to the principal - but if you do, I think you should advise your son to keep quiet on the subject (for the time being, anyway)

Hello Raji Ram,
We must advice our child to speak out in the classroom on the notice of teacher' s mistake by raising hand.
( polite way). That will build confidence in our child. Other children will learn how to differeciate in correct and wrong.
Second teacher will reganize the talent of student without getting offended by parent complaint one on one. Agree with you, teachers take parents feedback in meeting and open house. If you confront any teacher directly will hurt their esteem. After all teachers are human beings and tend to do mistake.
In my opinion, let children handle these routine things in the school by themself unless it become worse that teacher is unqualifed for her position. Then all parents must take this serious issue to the principle before our children learn something wrong at their foundation of career.
It is not a problem of one child ...but the class of 50+ students.
hope you will consider it.
thanks

I think you should see how this teacher is whether she is positive herself to accept her mistakes.

I agree with u, in India some teachers think they are top of the world. Everybody makes mistakes, but she is teachers children, so she should be known that she has made a mistake, why the child should suffer.

I feel you should go to the teacher, and speak to her.

every parent thinks like what we she ill treats my child. Please see u know how she is before speaking to her. or send a polite note.
bye
