Body and Fitness:Sandya, friends ... help (

The next day when i found myself at 78.5, my menses have started.

In my earlier life whenever I was excercising, I never did it during menses.

But i dont want to lose my flow now. I am worried i wd gain some grams if I dont burn the calories.

Waise hi, i burn less calories as compared to normal people. 300 -400 per day.
Above all, yesterday I had lot of work in office so couldnt give time to gym but still managed a quick fast run and burnt 100 cals.

I cant imagine burning nothing for next 3-4 days.

Can i work out even during menses? How much should one do? Should I do moderate treadmill and strengths instead?
Can i take steam? We have steam and sauna there but i dont want to get into that room with menses.

Sandya, what do you do during your menses?

One more question
I always feel the need to eat/drink something while I work(computers - IT). It helps me concentrate. I know the psych reasons and all, but havent been able to come out of it.

I have moved from munching to sipping warm water or diet coke or jasmine tea, but i want to leave all that. Any tips?

Please help. Really appreciate.

Though my menses are over by now, your replies are not late. I am going to have menses next month and these tips will help then.

I am happy to know I can continue same regime during periods. I too dont have severe cramps or pains. Will start using less weights and avoid stress on stomach that way.

Idea of keeping fennel seeds and clove in office cabinet is good.

Thanks B and Sandya. Helpful tips.

hey patlivated, sorry couldn' t back to you any earlier. Anyway like B pointed out, menses is not an illness so, you don' t have to treat it like one. Only thing is listen to your body. I always workout during my menses, even pilates i don' t cut out. But i might have an advantage over most women since i don' t experience any pain or cramps during my menses. So, if you experience any pain, then take it real easy. and get back to it as soon as you can. Also, notice that a week before your menses begin you tend to gain 2 to 3 lbs on avg. Don' t account for this weight since it is due to bloating and u retaining more water during this time. And another misconception is about spending time in the sauna and thinking that you lost weight. It is not so. When you sit in the sauna you lose only water, not calories. And once you come out, you replenish itself by drinking water since you feel thristy after losing out the moisture from your body.

About snacking while at work, then i guess this is a universal problem of women. Here' s what i do :

1. I keep a loadful to dry fruits in my drawers.
2. Dry cereal that u like.
3. Green souwmph.
4. Lavang
5. plenty of fluids.

The above keep me very happy.

Hope it helps. Keep your spirits up :):)

I, personally, have been exercising regularly, including during my menstruation. I don' t see any difference in my flow. There are days that I feel tired during my period and on those days, I cut back on the vigor of my exercise (for eg: I use light weights or use one riser instead of two). It is not an illness or anything like that so you can do what is comfortable to you. Key is to listen to your body and do what you feel is right.
Ah, the need to munch during work. I have it also. I think what you are doing is right (low cal or no cal snacks). You are not reaching for chips or chocolate so it is good.
